Advanced Onion, Inc., located in Monterey, CA, has an opportunity for a Test Automation Lead, whose
skills will become an integral asset to various teams dealing with some of the most progressive projects.
DESCRIPTION:
A tester with 3+ years of software test automation experience using tools such as TestPartner, SilkTest, or
QuickTest Professional (experience automating in TestPartner a plus.) The successful candidate is
experienced with more than just ‘record and playback’ – they will have strong scripting skills (VBA) and have
created and maintained shared functions for test automation. The candidate needs to be a self-starter and
fast learner, needing to maintain and create automation within an enterprise QA team having over 200
applications of multiple types, including thick- client, thin-client, system-to-system, and back-end database
applications.
Experience testing data-centric Windows applications is helpful to understand the systems being
tested and automated. Relational database and SQL knowledge is needed to create, modify, and
validate test data.
While the majority of time will be spent with test automation, the candidate needs general testing skills:
analyze explicit and implicit requirements, plan testing, create test cases, execute.
Experience conducting formal and informal training of other testers is a plus.
Is current on emerging tools, techniques and technologies related to software testing and test automation.
Provide automation leadership within a QA organization
o Help maintain and enhance testing frameworks written in VBA
o Assist and instruct testers in test automation and other tools
o Assist with maintaining testing tools and infrastructure
o Perform audits of existing automation; drive resolution of identified issues
o Help maintain and expand automation documentation and best practices
o Keep up on industry trends in automation and provide suggestions to improve testing and test
automation in support of DMDC
o Evaluate tools for use by QA and others within the organization
o Setup data initialization, especially as part of test automation

Assist in formal testing services, from test planning to manual & automated test execution for
data-centric back- end, Client/Server & Web/XML applications
Elicit formal and informal requirements for assigned tasks; provide testing & automation
services based on said requirements
Query and manipulate data using SQL in an Oracle relational database
Demonstrate analytical and quantitative capabilities
Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
Handle multiple concurrent projects with limited oversight
Represent QA with the project team and customers regarding business and technology
needs related to requirements gathering and software testing
Manage work within scope of responsibilities

Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems or related field
5+ years of QA experience in software testing
3+ years of software test automation experience
US citizenship
Ability to pass DoD vetting
All work conducted on site, no telecommuting
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:
o Current experience with automated testing tools such as TestPartner, SilkTest, or Quick Test
Pro; demonstrated experience independently creating test automation
o Ability to use one or more scripting/programming languages to automate tasks (such as
Visual Basic/VBA, Perl, Python, Ruby, Java); Visual Basic / VBA prefered
o Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of tools
o Application testing on the Windows platform - Client/Server, XML, Browser, and/or back end
applications or systems
o Working experience with RDBMSs (Oracle preferred) and demonstrated ability to write SQL
statements to create, update, and validate data; experience with PL/SQL preferred
o Experience using issue tracking software such as Jira, BugZilla, or TestTrack Pro
o Desired: Experience using version control systems such as CVS, SVN, VSS, or TFS
o Desired: Helped drive automation innovation (participated in testing tool analyses and/or
reviews, assisted and/or trained other manual testers in automation, implemented
recommendation to improve test automation)
o Desired: Have used and/or created methods for robust data initialization
o Desired: Helped manage / maintain testing tools, automation and otherwise
