Houston Family Arts Center – Purpose and Core Values The Houston Family Arts Center is a non-profit organization established to provide a fun outlet for creative community involvement through the production of affordable, high-quality, familyfriendly entertainment. We seek to entertain, inspire, challenge and educate within an atmosphere of positive values. Our Core Values Fun, Integrity, Excellence, Diversity, Family, Teamwork, Love FUN – Theatre should be fun! We want kids, families, and our audiences to have fun. While we’re serious about theatre, we will always have a great time. Life’s too short not to have fun. INTEGRITY – We intend to be good stewards of the resources and finances entrusted to us. Just as character is important for an individual, we believe honesty and integrity are vital to our organization. Children and youth working within an organization that values integrity will develop character traits such as commitment, discipline, dependability, and integrity. EXCELLENCE – Our performances will reflect our commitment to excellence in all areas of the performing arts while maintaining a moral and wholesome environment. Even though we’re a volunteer organization we won’t settle for second best. DIVERSITY – We want to be a theatre that is considered welcoming and inclusive, and reflective of the racial and cultural diversity in our community. Our play selections and casting will be designed to encourage all members of the community to audition, participate, and enjoy watching our productions. FAMILY – We will honor families in our scheduling and in our theatrical choices. We will support families by encouraging direct involvement of each family member’s talents, interests, and abilities. Theatre productions cross all age boundaries and are a unique opportunity for families to work together and for parents to enter their children’s world. To further honor families, no activities will be scheduled on Sunday, in order to ensure everyone associated with the Houston Family Arts Center has an opportunity to worship, spend time with family and friends, and/or rest. TEAMWORK – We are appreciative of the many volunteers from the community working together as a team to present high quality productions. The teamwork required in theatre builds important life skills in all participants--skills such as decision-making, cooperation, communication, and leadership. LOVE – We will demonstrate love to everyone associated with the Houston Family Arts Center and will share our love for theatre with all who join us on stage or in the audience. We have a board that loves working with children and youth, and we’re looking forward to sharing many wonderful experiences together.
