We have been studying dendritic cells in women with breast
cancer.
Dendritic cells are very important in mounting an effective
immune response so that, normally, a woman can fight off
the cancer.
We found that most women with breast cancer cannot do
that.
Our research is to improve the performance of these
dendritic cells so that the immune system of women could
eliminate the cancers in a natural way.
What we're doing at the moment is looking at cancer stem
cells as a potential source for immunotherapy.
Immunotherapy would be, in the future, a possibility to train
the immune system to eliminate the cancer cells that have
grown in a woman with breast cancer.
