Jinan
Jinan is the capital of Shandong Province, China’s second largest province in terms of people and is also the third strongest economy
in China.
Jinan is the political, economic, cultural, scientific, educational and financial centre of Shandong Province. Jinan is also a large subprovincial city and coastal city. Jinan covers an area of 8,177 km² with 7 million permanent residents.
In 2014, Jinan had a GDP of RMB 577.06 billion (approximately AUD128 billion) with growth rate of +8.8%.
Jinan is an important regional hub city in China adjoining two economic circles including the Yangtze River Delta (Shanghai and
surrounding provinces and the Bohai Rim Region (Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province) and includes the middle and lower streams of
the Yellow River from east to west. Jinan is rich in human resources, with 72 colleges and universities and more than 0.64 million
undergraduates.
Jinan is a city with a prosperous modern service industry. The production value of its service industry reaches 55.3% of GDP. Jinan
was selected to be a pilot city for the reform of the national service industry, “Famous Software City in China” and “National Service
Outsourcing Demonstration City”.
The city’s primary industries were historically heavy industries and textiles, but Jinan has become nationally famed for innovation which
has now expanded to include IT, transportation tools, home appliances and bio-engineered products.
Qingdao
Qingdao, also spelt Tsingtao, is the largest city in Shandong province, administered at the sub-provincial level. The city's total
jurisdiction occupies 10,654 km². Qingdao’s population is 9.0462 million.
In 2014, Qingdao had a GDP of RMB 869.21 billion (approximately AUD192 billion) with growth rate of +8%.
Qingdao is a major seaport, naval base, and industrial centre. It is the site of the famous Tsingtao Brewery, founded by German settlers
in 1903. Qingdao is also home to Haier, a large white goods manufacturer, and Hisense, a major electronics company.
Qingdao Port is China’s largest imported iron ore receiving port and Rizhao Port is among the top 5 largest imported iron ore receiving
ports in China. As a key port, Qingdao is a major destination for foreign investment and international trade.
Qingdao is also home to a variety of mineral resources. Up to thirty different kinds have been mined.
Qingdao is making efforts to develop itself as a science and technology centre, and is encouraging the establishment of industrial
clusters in areas such as autos, engines, shipbuilding, marine engineering, energy and environmental protection, finance, and logistics.
The city is aiming to improve its environmental management, and has goals of lowering carbon dioxide emissions. Qingdao's wind
power electricity generation performs at among the highest levels in the region.

Zibo
Zibo is located in the centre of Shandong. Zibo is an important transport hub, and is connected by good road, rail and air linkages.
Zibo is also the ancient capital of Qi, it is acknowledged by FIFA as the birthplace of modern football.
Zibo has a total area of 5,965km², including the counties of Huantai, Gaoqing, and Yiyuan. Zibo's total population is 4.65 million. In
2014, Zibo had a GDP of RMB 402.98 billion (approximately AUD 89 billion) with a growth rate of +7.4%.
Zibo is an important industrial base because it is rich in resources. Zibo has 53 kinds of mineral reserves in total and is a key city for
the refining of oil and chemical products. Industries with strong bases in Zibo include the petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals,
metallurgy, building materials, machinery and textile, high and new-technology such as new materials, fine chemicals, electronics
and information, and biological medicines.
Yantai
Yantai has a total area of 13746.5 km² and a population of 6.5341 million. In 2014, Yantai had a GDP of RMB 600.208 billion
(approximately AUD 133 billion) with a growth rate of +9.1%.
Yantai is known as the only International Vine & Wine City in Asia and one of the top seven vine coast in the world. There are more
than 130 wine makers, with famous brand names like Changyu, Great Wall and Weilong. The wine production accounts for 40% of
the total in the nation. Yantai is an important fishery centre in China, rich in over 200 marine products, including sea cucumber,
abalone, prawn and different fish. Yantai has abundant mineral resources. The reserves of gold, magnesium, molybdenum and
talcum rank among top five in the country. Both the reserve and production of gold are No. 1 in China, which account for 1/4 and
1/3, respectively. Machinery and electronics are also among the key sectors Yantai is renowned for.
Linyi
Linyi has a total population of 10,837,700(2012) and a total area of 17,200km². Linyi is the largest prefecture-level city in Shandong,
both by area and population. In 2014, Linyi’s GDP was RMB 356.98 billion (approximately AUD79 billion) with a growth rate of
+10.1%.
There are more than 101 various wholesale markets covering diversified goods of more than 60,000 kinds and 27 categories in
Linyi. Nearly everything from production materials to living necessities can be purchased. Linyi is a trading hub for more than 30
provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The commodities in these markets are sold to more than 20 countries and
regions.
Linyi is well renowned for its 2 major events: China (Linyi) International Wood-Based Panel Industry Expo is its key event for
promoting its panel processing capability, and China (Linyi) International Trade and Logistics Fair for promoting its wholesale hub
role and regional logistics centre role. Linyi has prominent fruit and vegetable industries and is abundant in mineral resources. A
total of 78 kinds of minerals with huge proven reserves have so far been discovered.
