Subscripts are the small number(s) that is written to
the right of an element.
NH3
1 atom of Nitrogen and 3 atoms of Hydrogen.
Coefficients are the large numbers place in front of a
chemical formula. This number is multiplied
throughout the formula.
2H2O
4 atoms of Hydrogen, 2 atoms of Oxygen.
For elements that are in parentheses, the subscript
goes with each element in the parentheses.
(NaOH)2
2 atoms of Sodium, 2 atoms of Oxygen, and 2
atoms of Hydrogen.
