Greetings to all!
Announcement: our former 'Participation Musique' has morphed into
The Saturday Night Percussion Jam!
We wanted a more celebratory feel to our percussion evenings so we have secured a club location in
downtown Toronto. Enjoy the chance to explore rhythm with a master of improvised music, Mark
Hundevad, in a relaxed atmosphere (open bar!) .
When: Saturday February 17th 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Where: Hal’s Ballroom (NW corner of Duncan & Adelaide - basement of HAL Burger)
. . . And Mark’s band “Controlled Demolition Sextet” will be performing afterwards!
The emphasis of the Percussion Party will be on improvisation, freedom of expression and letting the
moment carry the beat to wherever it needs to go.
All skill levels are welcome (beginners to advanced). Bring your own hand drum or call to reserve one. A
variety of percussive instruments will be provided.
Those of you familiar with the Toronto jazz and free music scene may well have come across Mark
Hundevad. He is a talented multi percussionist, vibraphonist, composer, arranger and drum teacher with 30
years of playing experience. In his late teens he won 1st place at the Canadian National Stage Band
Festival and received a full scholarship to the Banff School of Fine Arts where he studied and performed
with jazz piano legend Cecil Taylor. Since then he has gone on to play with some of the world’'s leading
avant garde jazz musicians. Mark is a master of improvisation whose life is dedicated to finding the magic
through music. He has been actively playing in the Toronto music scene for 20 years, literally playing
with hundreds of musicians and has acquired a vast knowledge of musical styles: jazz, latin, African,
calypso, rhythm'n'blues, funk, reggae and free form improvisation. Mark also gives private and group drum
lessons.
As musical leader of the evening, Mark will be playing drums and vibraphones and his emphasis will be on
exploring the elements that allow groove and trance to take place so that the participants can enter into the
'participation mystique' of collaborative improvised musical expression.
Lucya Almeida, a graduate of the Transpersonal Therapy Centre, will be assisting. A percussionist of
many years, she has played often with Mark, and will help to create a steady rhythm and safe space for
exploration thru drumming, dance and movement.
Cost for the evening including performance is $15 (we lowered the cost in recognition of the parking fees
in the area)
There is limited Space so please RSVP to reserve: [email protected] or call 7o5-2772353
