Y7 RE homework project -The Jewish Art Gallery
A new art gallery of religions is opening and you are delighted to have got a job there! Your
task is to select exhibits for the Jewish Room. You will need to search online or in books for
items. You need to select what to include carefully and have reasons for each of your
choices, these you will have to justify to your boss at the gallery.
Like all religions, Judaism is a collection of beliefs shared by a community of people.The
beliefs relate to the existence of God. As a result, the people who share the belief worship in
a particular way, and live their lives according to certain rules. Make sure you have read and
researched the religion before trying to complete the project.

Remembering – Firstly you need to have a list of Jewish words and their meanings, this
could be given to the visitors of the gallery when they come to see the exhibition
Shema
Covenant
Chosen people
Ten commandments
Torah
Synagogue
Sabbath
Festivals – Pesach, Yom Kippur, Hannuka
These are some of the words you might want to include
Understanding – Write at least 2 paragraphs about key Jewish beliefs.
Applying – Find at least four pictures of Jews/Jewish life/Jewish beliefs and include copies
of them in your project. Add a title to each one and if it is a painting say who created it.
Analysing – For each of the pictures chosen in ‘applying’ write a description of it (In an
art gallery paintings would have a board next to them saying what the painting is of, who
painted it, what it shows etc) Yours should say what it shows and what this means to the
Jewish faith.
Evaluating- Write a letter to your boss explaining why you have chosen each of the
pictures. You may also say why you have not included others or why this particular picture is
better than another showing the same thing.
Creating –
Draw or design your own picture/collage of ‘Jewish Life’ Write a paragraph
explaining what you have included and why.
