Dublin, 19th February 2002 – The Irish Energy Centre has today launched “Energy
Linked” (www.irish-energy.ie/energy_linked), a new website on energy for secondary
schools. Aimed primarily at teachers, the site also includes sections for students and
parents. The materials were devised by expert teachers and are designed to integrate into
the curriculum.
Divided into five sections – Teachers, Students, Parents, Subjects and Library - the website covers energy related topics in the second level school curricula. The subjects
covered are Home Economics (Junior Cert and Leaving Cert), Science (Junior Cert),
Physics(Leaving Cert), Geography (Junior Cert and Leaving Cert) and Architectural
Technology.
For each subject there are:



Fact sheets (background information for teachers and students)
Activity sheets that include questions, practicals, role-plays, crosswords and
word searches.
Experiments/Practicals – such as how to make your own solar panel in the
Architectural Technology section.
Climate Change is one important topic explained on the website. This includes an
animated movie clip and comprehensive information on the causes of climate change
and what can be done to address the issue in Ireland.
Also included is a Library section with an extensive glossary of publications, as well as a
Student section that contains online energy related games.
The site can be accessed via the main Irish Energy Centre’s website.
The Irish Energy Centre is funded by the Irish Government under the National
