1. Why did the Allies feel that capturing the Dardanelles was an important piece of their strategy?

17. Explain the wars effect on the economies of the European nations involved.
Closing Activity:
Imagine you are the leader of the United States and you are asked to draw up a peace plan that tries to
prevent future wars like the one just experienced in Europe. In the peace plan you must a) punish the
losing nations b) reward the winners c) establish guidelines to prevent future wars of this type. If you are
too harsh, you risk creating resentment and if you are too light, you might lessen the risk of war. Think
carefully and be specific.
