HISTORIC PRESERVATION SPECIALIST – Architectural Historian
PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is hiring an architectural
historian to be based in District 1-0 offices in Oil City. Individuals will have unparalleled
opportunities and responsibilities to shape the direction and performance of cultural
resource investigations conducted on the Department’s multi-billion dollar annual design
and construction program.
Each of the eleven PennDOT Engineering Districts have a team comprised of an
archaeologist and an architectural historian. The team will guide the Section 106 process
starting early in project design, working holistically on all cultural resource issues related
to a project, and participate interactively with a design team of project engineers,
designers, and environmental specialists. Each position is located in a PennDOT District
Office, under the guidance of the District Environmental Manager. Most positions
support more than one Engineering District. This position is expected to provide support
for both District 1-0 (Oil City) and District 2-0 (Clearfield).
Minimum experience and training required for the historic preservation specialist job
classification is: two or more years of experience working on an architectural survey, an
architectural restoration and preservation project or program, and a bachelor’s degree in
architectural history, American history, art history or course work in Pennsylvania
history; or, any equivalent combination of experience and training.
The position had an additional requirement to meet the Secretary of Interior Standards for
Architectural Historian.
Salary range is $45,692 – $69,477. There is an excellent benefits package, including paid
