Ensure reliable backup and recover of
end-user data
HP Mobile Information Protection
Recovering lost information requires an
overwhelming amount of time and technical
assistance—and sometimes the information can’t
be recovered at all. To avoid these losses, trust
HP Mobile Information Protection (MIP) services to
automate the backup of your end-user machines and
enable fast recovery without technical support.
Features
•Provides nonintrusive, automated data backup for
end-user laptop or PC
•Protects user data, including documents, links,
settings, application data, and email files
•Maintains information for laptops that have
been lost, stolen, damaged, or belonged to
former employees
•Recovers files or recreates an entire system using a
file structure that mirrors the user’s machine
•Eliminates the need for tapes by using an off-site,
disk-based backup
•Enables both users and system administrators to
search and recover files
Benefits
•Provides a full stack of technology and services
including hardware, software, hosting, and global
storage management
•Offers global delivery scale and continuous
operational 24/7/365 support
•Eliminates capital purchases and the cost of excess
capacity through the HP Cloud Storage model
•Delivers environmentally responsible technology
and services
Data overload creates risk
The amount of enterprise data on desktops and
laptops is compounding annually. Most of it is
susceptible to damage or loss because of a range
of risks—viruses, software and hardware failures,
corrupted files, theft, and security breaches.
Companies spend both money and time trying to
protect their data, but increasing losses often result
in employee downtime and lower productivity.
Protect end-user data residing on laptops and PCs
HP provides rapid, reliable, and cost-effective
backup and recovery of user data—along with
comprehensive, managed support. MIP automatically
transfers encrypted laptop data over a secure IP
connection to an HP storage site. Backups are
transparent to the user and do not interfere with
daily work. With MIP, the user can recover individual
files within minutes. In the event of a lost, stolen or
damaged laptop, MIP fully restores the employee’s
data on a new machine within hours.
Leverages best-in-class IT capabilities
•HP managed services—HP protects end-user
data with capabilities such as ITIL-based delivery
methodologies, continuous remote service
monitoring and management, technology
refreshing, and standardized reporting.
•Incremental network-based backup—Transfers and
stores only files that have been modified since the
previous backup.
•Data encryption—Securely encrypts data from a
user’s machine prior to transmission across the
network to a highly secure HP data center.
•Redundant data elimination and compression—
Reduces backup storage and network traffic
through single-instance-store and compression
technologies.
•Users can migrate their own data, transfer files,
and mirror settings from one PC to another, helping
facilitate the laptop refresh cycle.
•Data restoration begins in a matter of moments
and takes less than a few minutes for individual
files, or a few hours for a full system recovery.

MIP SERVER
•MIP complements a company’s data retention
policy, providing information about the contents of
laptops that have been lost, stolen, damaged, or
used by former employees.
Recognized leadership ensures quality
•Gartner has recognized EDS, now HP, as a leader
of storage services since 2003.
•HP uses consistent global processes and operates
more than 180 data centers worldwide.
•HP manages more than 55 PB of online data and
more than 300 PB of managed backup data.
Enhance data security and restoration
•An MIP desktop agent is first installed on the user’s
PC to enable files to be compressed and backed
up over the network, eliminating the need for
backup disks or external storage.
•Backup and recovery procedures can be
performed on any PC connected to the network,
so users in remote locations receive the same
protection as those in the home office.
•After the initial backup, the desktop agent
automatically schedules daily backups to transmit
and store data that has changed from the previous
backup, saving storage costs and reducing
network traffic.
•After a user’s system has been backed up to the
MIP server, files can be restored or an entire
system can be recreated.
•HP uses ITIL-based processes, holds ISO
certifications, and uses lean Six Sigma to
eliminate defects.
Increase PC storage availability and security
•Reduce the risk of lost data and protect user
laptops from failure, damage, and theft
•Decrease your costs and your environmental
footprint with redundant data elimination and
compression technologies
•Eliminate capital purchases and excess capacity
with HP Cloud Storage
•Empower end users to recover files directly without
technical support
•Achieve availability starting at 98 percent, with
around-the-clock support
