Peloponnesian League: an alliance of city states in the Peloponnesus in which Sparta was the
head; met in an assembly to discuss actions but Sparta had execution rights to those actions.
Delian League: alliance of city states in the northern part of Greece in which Athens was the
head; large states supplied warships and smaller city-states supplied money; funds kept on
Delos; dates 477-404 BC
Lysander: Lysander was a Spartan admiral who commanded the Spartan fleet in the Hellespont which
defeated the Athenians at Aegospotami in 405 BC
Alcibiades: was a gifted and flamboyant Athenian statesman and general whose shifting of
sides during the Peloponnesian War in the 5th century BC earned him a reputation for cunning
and treachery; led the Sicilian defeat
