Plant cell
Animal Cell
A cell is like a motor because a motor
takes smaller components to operate
The nucleus is like pistons because
they control the strokes of an engine
like the nucleus controls the cell
The cell membrane is like an EGR valve
because it regulates old exhaust like a
cell membrane regulates materials
The cell wall is like an engine block
because it is the motors structure like
a plant wall is for a plant cell
Endoplasmic reticulum is like fuel lines
because they are passages for gasoline
like endoplasmic reticulum are
passages for protein
Golgi apparatus is like a fuel pump
because it ships gas through the lines
Mitochondrion is like a crankshaft
because it helps turn the motor and
give it power
Vacuole is an oil pan because it holds
waste like an oil pan holds used oil
Ribosome is like a spark plug because
it provides fire to the motor like a
ribosome produces proteins
Comparison of plant
and animal cells
Plant cells
•
•
•
•
•
•
Have cell walls
Have chloroplast
Does photosynthesis and cellular respiration
Is square due to rigid square wall
Have chlorophyll (which makes it green)
Have one large central vacuole
Animal cells
•
•
•
•
•
•
Have cytoskeletons
Don’t have chloroplast
Does cellular respiration
Can be any shape (rounded)
White/ pink (blood)
Many small vacuoles
