Transcript
What is its job?
Found in the
testes of animals.
A sperm cell is designed to fertilise eggs.
What features allow a sperm to complete this job?
• It has a long tail that provides movement so it can
swim and find an egg cell.
• It has lots of mitochondria in its head to produce
more energy, for its long journey to the egg cell.
• The head contains enzymes which allow it to
digest into an egg cell and join with it.
What is its job?
Cytoplasm
containing yolk
An egg cell is
Found in the
Ovaries.
designed to be fertilised.
What features allow an egg cell
to complete this job?
• The egg cell is large and bulky
•Contains yolk which provides a
large food store for the new
baby (cell) being formed.
Layer
of jelly
Nucleus
•There is a jelly coat to ensure
that only one sperm gets
through.
Found in the
Blood.
What is its job?
Red blood cells are designed to carry oxygen around
the blood.
What features allow a red blood cell to complete
this job?
• Has no nucleus, and has a large surface area so it
can carry as much oxygen as possible.
•Thin outer membrane to let oxygen diffuse through
easily.
cilia
What is its job?
They are Designed
Found in all the
air passages
of the lungs.
to stop lung damage.
What features allow a ciliated
cell to complete this job?
• The have tiny hairs called cilia
• The cilia hairs trap dust and
microbes and waft them out
of the breathing system
Nucleus
Nucleus
Found in the top
of the leaf.
What is its job?
Their job is to complete
photosynthesis.
Chloroplast
What features allow a root hair
cell to complete this job?
Tall and has a large surface
area to absorb water and
minerals.
Packed with chloroplasts to
help make plant food.
Nucleus
Found connected to
The nervous
System.
What is its job?
Their job is to carry nerve impulses to different
parts of the body.
What features allow a nerve cell to complete this
job?
•They are long.
•They have connections at each end.
•Can carry electrical signals.
Nucleus
Thin Cell
wall
Found in a plant
root.
Cell membrane
What is its job?
Their job is to absorb water and minerals.
What features allow a root hair cell to complete
this job?
•It has a large surface which helps it to absorb
water and minerals.
•Thin cell wall makes it easy for minerals to pass
through.
