Task
Your task is to help the NCHE decide the order of importance of the
events. Louisiana Purchase, The War of 1812, American Industrialized
Revolution, and the Monroe Doctrine. To complete this task you will create a
proposal in which you rank these events. 

A description of each individual event
Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was the acquisition by the United States of America in
1803 of 828,000 square miles of France's claim to the territory of Louisiana.
The U.S. paid 50 million francs plus cancellation of debts worth 18 million
francs, for a total sum of 15 million dollars (less than 3 cents per acre) for the
Louisiana territory.
War of 1812
The War of 1812 was a 32-month military conflict between the United States and the British Empire and
their Indian allies which resulted in no territorial change between the British and the US, but a resolution of
many issues which remained from the American War of Independence. The president during the War of 1812
was James Madison. The United States declared war in 1812 for several reasons, including trade restrictions
brought about by Britain's continuing war with France. Another being that when the United States sent trade
ships out they were intercepted by other countries for supplies and money. The war was fought in three principal
places. Firstly, at sea, warships and privateers of both sides attacked each other's merchant ships, while the
British blockaded the Atlantic coast of the U.S. and assigned large-scale raids in the later times of the war. Soon
after, both land and naval battles were fought on the American–Canadian frontier, which ran along the Great
Lakes, the Saint Lawrence River and the northern end of Lake Champlain. Both sides invaded each other's
territory, but these invasions were unsuccessful or temporary. The British victory at the Battle of Bladensburg in
August 1814 allowed them to capture and burn Washington, D.C. Later during which Dolly Madison removed
several valuables from the White House. One certain painting of George Washington was cut out of the frame
and taken out of the fire by a servant of James Madison. At the end of the war there was a peaceful relationship
between the United States and Britain.
Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine is a policy of the United States introduced on December 2,
1823. It states that further efforts by European nations to colonize land or interfere
with states in North or South America would be viewed as acts of aggression,
requiring U.S. intervention. At the same time, the Doctrine noted that the United
States would not interfere with existing European colonies. The Doctrine was issued at
a time when nearly all Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved
independence from the Spanish Empire (except Cuba and Puerto Rico) and the
Portuguese Empire. The United States, working in agreement with Britain, wanted to
guarantee no European power would move in. Its primary objective was to free the
newly independent colonies of Latin America from European intervention and avoid
situations which could make the New World a battleground for the powers of the
older countries.
American Industrialized Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes
that occurred in the period from about 1760 to some time between 1820 and
1840. This transition included going from hand production methods to
machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production processes,
improved efficiency of water power, the increasing use of steam power and
development of machine tools. The transition also included the change from
wood and other bio-fuels to coal. The United States started the industrialized
revolution after Europe and Western Europe.
Reasons
The reasons behind my ranking of events
Louisiana Purchase
The reason I chose the Louisiana Purchase as the most important is because it
is the purchase of almost half of the current United States. The expansion
brought along with it social, political, and economical change. Leading this
country to higher standards, and making us a newer country, better equipped to
rise into higher power. We were no longer the new, weak, unstable, and unsafe
country. We were now the new, high standing country, with pride bigger than
us.
War of 1812
The reason I chose the War of 1812 second is, because we were fighting to
keep our newly found freedom. We did not want the other counties to steal our
goods like they had done with our land. It was ours and not theirs. They were
taking more than they needed leaving us with little to survive on, breaking
down our country. The winning of this war gave us a confidence boost to
move forward with our newly built country.
Monroe Doctrine
The reason I chose the Monroe Doctrine third is, because it gave us control
over ourselves. It kept our land protected from outside countries. With the
Monroe Doctrine we could contain, control, and have power over ALL our
land, new and old. Other countries could not take, or colonize on our country.
The only reason I believe the Monroe Doctrine is not the most important is,
because it didn’t gain any land it only kept the current land safe.
American Industrialized Revolution
The main reason why I chose this last, was that it only was a mere upgrade in
this country, it didn’t give us more land, nor did it give us more power. It was in
inside upgrade not an outer upgrade. It happened within our own walls.
