Overview

Marketing strategies - develop and implement client marketing strategies, including
initiatives for multiple channels such as direct, online and print channels

Business development – develop and maintain relationships, write proposals and
prepare quotes, attend business development meetings and contribute ideas to clients
when pitching for new work

Marketing communication - oversee marketing communication for various channels
including writing e-newsletter content and marketing material copy

Manage elements of the production cycle for a bi-monthly magazine as well as
production of ongoing publishing projects separate to the magazine
Position description
Oceania Media is looking for a Junior Marketing Manager to join their team. This is a varied
role, and as part of a small team, working in a deadline-driven environment, you will be
interested in building relationships, organized and efficient. You will have approximately five
years experience working in Marketing / publishing, and this role is ideal for someone looking
to move up to the next level in their career into an entry level management position.
Oceania Media are publishers of SPASIFIK, a magazine and identity connecting people across
New Zealand and the Pacific. Entertaining, informing and inspiring those with a passion for the
Pacific, it is New Zealand’s only publication dedicated to both Maori and Pacific people.
Oceania Media has also produced newsletters, magazines and programmes for a number of
leading organisations and government departments.
An interest in New Zealand and the Pacific would be an advantage for this role. You will be
responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies for clients, developing new
business through persuasive proposal writing and face to face pitching, and overseeing
marketing communication initiatives for clients such as website content management, enewsletters, event management and development of marketing materials. You will also be
responsible for elements of producing the bi-monthly magazine, fostering and developing
relationships with publicists, public relations agents and advertisers.

Develop client marketing strategies, including developing initiatives for
multiple channels such as direct, online and print channels

Develop the SPASIFIK magazine marketing strategy to support objectives of
increasing readership and subscription numbers

Oversee implementation of marketing strategies ensuring brands are correctly
represented in all marketing projects undertaken

Manage marketing budgets and alternative revenue streams such as funding
applications where required to support the marketing strategy

Write proposals and prepare quotes to sign off stage from Oceania Media
Directors, and attend business development meetings and contribute ideas to
clients when pitching for new work

Manage relationships between Oceania Media and clients to ensure Oceania
Media delivers client projects and exceeds client expectations on all service
delivery

Oversee marketing communication for various channels including writing enewsletter content and marketing material copy, develop promotional
materials including scripts for radio and television, for direct distribution
channels and for online promos

Manage media relations strategies including writing press releases and liaising
with media contacts where required

Contribute ideas for advertising content when required

Liaise with publicists/public relations representatives, publishers, record
labels, movie, TV production companies and the general public when
coordinating advertorial and editorial content, giveaways etc for SPASIFIK

Liaise with clients regarding advertising packages for SPASIFIK and Manage ad
design for clients requiring production (print and web)

Manage workflow of web team and SPASIFIK interns when required

Qualifications
Other requirements

Proven experience as a marketing coordinator or executive, or as a
project manager

An understanding of integrated marketing concepts, with a strategic
focus and practical approach

Strong writing skills

Experience in writing proposals and attending face to face pitch meetings

Event management experience

Strong organisation and time management skills

People skills with the ability to build rapport when networking, liaising
with external suppliers, clients and story sources

A tertiary qualification in marketing, management or other relevant field

Experienced in computer skills such as use of Word, Excel, Outlook,
Indesign etc

Knowledge, experience and interest in Pacific and Maori culture, current
affairs and issues is an advantage

The ability to progress a variety of tasks simultaneously

The ability to sustain effort over time

A passion to succeed and contribute to a growing business

An interest in taking a step up in your career to an entry level
management position
