On the day of your admission Your admission letter will give you specific details about your stay and what time you should come in. Remember to bring all your current medications (we cannot supply these for you), your admission letter and any personal belongings you may need during your stay. You are responsible for your belongings on the unit so do not bring valuables with you. We advise you to wear comfortable clothing for your visit. Getting to the hospital Unless you have a medical condition that prevents you from using public transport, you will need to make your own travel arrangements. Travel information can be found on the back of this leaflet. Please check with Transport for London or our website before leaving home to avoid delays. When you arrive at the hospital make your way to the reception desk on the Day Care Unit. On the Day Care Unit When you arrive on the unit a nurse will be allocated to look after you. A nurse and a doctor will assess you and you will be told about any tests and investigations that have been planned. Our unit is open from 7am to 8pm and all tests, investigations and procedures occur during these hours. Giving consent Before any treatment, investigation or procedure you will be asked for your consent. We will explain the relevant risks, benefits and alternatives so you can make an informed decision. If you have any questions, or you are unsure about anything that has been said to you, do not hesitate to ask the person who is treating or examining you. Refreshments and meals All refreshments and meals are provided. A hot meal is served at 12noon and 6pm and a refreshment trolley is available at all times on the unit for patients. Let us know if you have any special dietary requirements and please do not bring your own cooked food without speaking to us first. Visitors are welcome to use the hospital restaurant and café. Your health records To ensure you get the best care possible we keep confidential information about your health and other details such as your name, address, date of birth and GP details. We observe our legal and professional duties when we process this information. To find out how your information will be used and protected by UCLH, please refer to our leaflet, “How information about you will be used by UCLH ". If you would like to view your medical records please speak to the nurse in charge to arrange this for you. If you wish to have a copy of your records please be aware there is a charge. Leaving hospital Most patients attending the Day Care Unit are able to return home using their own transport or public transport. If you are being collected at the end of your stay, please speak to the nursing staff before arranging a time to go home. Hospital transport is arranged directly by the hospital only for patients who are medically unfit to travel by any other form of transport. Some other important information Mobile phones can be used in designated areas – ask the staff to tell you where you can use your phone if you are unsure. Smoking is not permitted on any part of the hospital grounds, including the entrances and exits. The Hospital Chapel on the ground floor of the NHNN welcomes people of all faiths and none.
