Caring for Your Appliance
When we first place your appliance it will take some time for your mouth to
get used to it being there. You may find it difficult at first to talk, swallow or eat.
This is temporary and will pass within the first couple of days. We do recommend
reading something aloud at home the first night to help with your speech. You
should not experience any soreness or pain but if so taking an over the counter
pain medication such as Tylenol, Advil, or Ibuprofen will help.
While your mouth is getting used to the appliance you may get sores on
your lips or insides of your cheeks. These are temporary and will fade. To help
heal any sores you can use orthodontic wax, which we provide, and rinse your
mouth with warm salt water. Do not use mouthwash as it will irritate sores
further.
Hard, chewy, or crunchy foods should be broken or cut into smaller pieces

Keeping everything clean is very important. Brushing after every time you
eat is recommended. When brushing you should make sure you are brushing
around the appliance to get everything clean.
If ever there is an issue with your appliance please make sure to call the
office. We will do our best to get you in for an appointment as soon as possible to
make you comfortable or fix the issue.
Please don’t hesitate to call the office with any questions or concerns you
may have.
