STUDIES IN HEBREW POETRY AND JEWISH HERITAGE In Memory of Aharon Mirsky Edited by Ephraim Hazan ∙ Joseph Yahalom Prof. Aharon Mirsky was one of the foremost scholars of Hebrew poetry and piyyut of different periods and places. He was a member of the 'Academy for the Hebrew Language' and recipient of the Israel Prize for Hebrew Literature for 1999. He was one of the editors of Da'at Mikr'a, and wrote a commentary on the Book of Numbers. His unique style is evident in his scholarly writing as well as in his poetry, both of which reflect his deep affinity for Jewish tradition, culture and history. Among his books are: The Poetry of R. Yitzhak ben Kalfon; Piyyut: Development in the Land of Israel and in the Diaspora; From Obligations of the Heart to Poems of the Heart; Midrash Tan'aim to the Book of Genesis, and others. His poems were published in several collections. This book contains a fascinating range of studies by friends, students, colleagues and admirers of Prof. Mirsky. The first section is devoted to his personality, his thought and his poetry. The other sections contain studies on Bible, Midrash, Hebrew language and History of the Jewish People. There are also studies on piyyut and liturgical poetry throughout the ages, and Spanish poetry and its influence on Jewish culture. 488 pp. Hebrew. Hardcover. 2006
