Axis- An imaginary line through the middle of an object, around which that object spins, as in Earth’s axis. 3. Orbit- The invisible path followed by an object circling a planet, the sun, etc 4. Downdraft- Cold, dense air that sinks. 5. Updraft- Warmer, less dense air that rises. 6. Coriolis Effect- The effect caused by the Earth turning on its axis that causes falling objects to move rightward in the northern hemisphere and leftward in the southern hemisphere. 7. Convection Cell- A pattern of rising and sinking air formed from updrafts and downdrafts that forms winds. 8. Polar Easterlies- Winds that blow from high pressure areas in the North and South poles. 9. Hygrometer- An instrument that is used to measure humidity in the air. 10.Front- The edge of a mass of cold or warm air. 11.Air Mass- A body of air that has the same levels of temperature and humidity. 12.Humidity- The amount of moisture in the air. 13.Salinity- Saltiness, or the amount of salt in something. 14.Mineral- A substance found in nature that is not an animal or a plant. Gold, salt, and copper are all minerals. 15.Current- The movement of water in a river or on an ocean. 16.Sea Level- The average level of the surface of the ocean, used as a starting point from which to measure the height or depth of any place. 17.Atmosphere- The mixture of gases that surrounds a planet, or the air in a particular place. 18.Gravity- The force that pulls things down toward the surface of the Earth and keeps them from floating away into space.
