KERI and CAST(Center for Applied Superconductivity Technology) sponsored
by government has been developed 4 typical HTS power equipments(cable,
FCL, transformer and motor) with 22.9/154kV voltage ratings since 2000. Our
project, one of the R&D projects sponsored by CAST, is to establish the
detailed application scheme and assist to field test in KEPCO(Korea Electric
Power Corporation) system. This paper describes the past research outcomes
and future plans of our project for successful launching of HTS equipments
under developing or developed. We established the important concept for
applying future power supplying system with ultra-high load density area such
as SEOUL Metropolitan. We call this new power system as APSAST (Advanced
Power System by Superconducting Technology). It means the application of
22.9kV HTS cable, 22.9Kv FCL and 154/22.9kV transformer for substituting the
154kV conventional system with same capacity. We believe this new concept
using superconductivity technology (high capacity, small size) can give huge
economic and environmental benefits to all of the concerned authorities.
<Personal History>
Yoon Jae-young is the principal researcher of Electric Power Research Lab. at
the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute [KERI]. He received his BSc.,
MSc. and Ph.D degree in electrical engineering from Busan National University.
Also, he got the P.E. (Professional Engineer) qualification in 1994. Since 1987,
he has been working in the research field of power system analysis including
custom power systems at KERI. Currently, he is managing a research project,
application of HTS(high Temperature Superconducting) equipment such as
cables, fault current limiters and transformers. Also, he is a project manager in
the research project related to the Northeast Asian Power System
Interconnection, including North-Korea.
