Text Book(s) and Supplemental Material(s):
Laboratory handouts.
Course Goal(s):
The goal of this course is to make students proficient in the use of Electrical Engineering laboratory
equipment and the connection of circuits using electronic components.
Instructional Outcomes for the Course:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Produce periodic signals with specific parameters from a function generator.
2. Define, measure, and compare the peak, the average, and the effective or root-mean-squared (rms)
values of voltage and current waveforms.
3. Observe and measure the parameters describing the time-dependent periodic waveforms using the
oscilloscope.
4. Determine and specify the characteristics of the Wheatstone bridge when used in instrumentation
applications, and define, measure and interpret sensitivities in simple circuits.
5. Describe the operation half-wave rectifiers and Opamps.
6. Practice safety in the laboratory.
7. Document the experimental procedures.
8. Understand data sheets and specification sheets for electrical components.
Criterion 3 Student Outcomes addressed by this Course:
3a. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
3b. an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
3k. an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering
practice.
Program Criteria addressed by this Course:
… engineering topics (including computing science) necessary to analyze and design complex electrical and
electronic devices …
Course Topics:
1. DC circuits: parallel and series resistances, Ohm’s & Kirchoff’s Laws, voltage and current sources,
Wheatstone bridge (20%).
2. AC circuits: capacitors, inductors, ac power, power factor (20%).
3. Operational amplifier circuits: integrators, filters (20%).
