Chapter 8.3: Trigonometric
Ratios
Introduction
• Trigonometry is a huge branch of
Mathematics. In Geometry, we touch on a
small portion. Called the “Trigonometric
Functions”. They are three formulas that
can be used to find the side lengths of
right triangles. They’re called:
• Sine, Cosine, and Tangent
Sin, Cos  , Tan  properties
• SIN  = length of the side opposite an angle
length of the hypotenuse
• COS = length of the adjacent side to an angle
length of the hypotenuse
• TAN  = length of the side opposite and angle
length of the side adjacent to an angle
 represent an Angle measure

• Soh-Cah-Toa is a way to help you
memorize the trig. Formulas.
