“Vega” Yuga to “Veda” Yuga – The Yogic Way of living Life
Vega means speed
Veda means Knowledge.
Yoga is one of our ancient Hindu sciences given to us by our ancestors. It is a way of life
and not just a few postures, meditation and breathing techniques. Yoga has originated
from the ancient Hindu Scripture – Veda. The meaning of Veda is Gnaana or
Knowledge. Sage Patanjali, has hand picked sections from Vedas and combined them in
the form of 195 Yoga Sutras. This is his contribution to the younger generations of this
country. In our country, the lifestyle of our ancestors was very close to the way of life
which yoga preaches. Today’s lifestyle concentrates more on how fast we can get things
done. This has resulted in stress, physical and mental disorders. A permanent solution to
this stress is to look back at our ancestral lifestyle and follow the Yogic way of life as
applicable to today’s society.

Yoga and Weight loss – The correct perspective
What is Yoga?
Yoga is one of the six systems of Indian Philosophy. The word Yoga originates from the
root YUJ which means Union. Union of individual self with the universal self. It is the
union of body, mind, intellect and self. Yoga limits the oscillations of the mind" (Yogah
chitta vritti nirodhah – Patanjali Surtra).
How is it related to Weight loss?
Many studies have shown that regular Yogasana(Physical posture) practice along with
Pranayama(Breathing technique) and Dhayana(Meditation) for a period of three
months will help lose unnecessary weight of the body. It is known that weight reduction
should be in a gradual pace, because if we lose weight in a very short period of time we
can easily gain back that weight in same amount of time. Yoga, as a treatment for obesity
and overweight, has been shown to be effective at addressing both the physical and the
psychological/emotional facets of these conditions.
In addition, Yogasana offers gentle exercise for obese individuals, whose bodies are
often under immense physical strain. Yoga is low-impact, and easily adapted to almost
any level of fitness; practice of Yogasanas enhances flexibility and coordination, and
increases strength and muscle tone. It does not place undue strain on the heart or
respiratory system. Providing obese individuals with a practical form of physical activity
can be a key to treating their condition. Regular exercise has been shown to not only
improve fitness, but to alleviate depression and anxiety, and build confidence.
Any negative emotion can become a trigger to overeat. Pranayama and Dhyana
techniques can help food addicts and binge-eaters learn to confront and deconstruct

negative emotions and compulsive behaviors. Pranayama can bring immediate calm and
focus to the mind, helping these individuals to self-soothe without resorting to eating.
This is the best approach in losing weight gradually and for good. Yoga offers a good
solution to this problem, unlike any other “weight loss programs”.
Yoga also promotes a healthy connection with the physical self.
Each Asana offers a way to reconnect positively with the body, and to learn how to exert
healthy control over body and mind. Students of yoga are encouraged to approach each
pose with an open heart and mind, to keep their minds quiet during practice, and to
balance effort with reverence for their bodies. Each pose is a way to self-exploration and
self-care, both mental and physical.
Following few good eating habits like eating right amount of good
along with regular practice of Asanas, Praanayama and Dhyana
weight loss. One must do regular yoga and their diet should include
fruits, avoiding all junk foods and drinking atleast 2-3 liters of water
weight loss in an effective way.

Deepotsava – 13th November
This event is celebrated in the month of “Karthika”. Deepotsava symbolizes the
celebration of Jyoti(light) as the life-force within us.
On this day, the principle and ideologies our ancestors associated with Jyoti is
remembered and imbibed in our minds. Jyoti symobolises – Tyaga (Sacrifice) and
BeLaku (Knowledge). Jyoti is an element of Sun, and it represents three yoga paths –
Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga and Gnana Yoga.
Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya – Taking us from Ignorance and darkness towards the light /
enlightenment. It is this principle that we remember and follow in every walk of our
lives. Like a Jyoti, which can be used to light up thousand more, inspiration from this is
taken to dedicate our life to follow and spread this message to the society. Nanda deepa is
associated with Jyoti or Deepotsava, which symbolizes an undying force of spreading
knowledge. Nanda deepa is a soft form of Agni, unlike the harsh forms like lightning /

volcanic eruptions. This is also symbolic of the soft nature a human being has to cultivate
in him/her.
Makkala Samohika Huttu Habba – 29th November
Celebrating community birthdays.
This is conducted by Yogabandhu’s (esp. the women) from Yogashree. They take the
entire responsibility of organizing this event. It is a tradition that adults who celebrate
their birthdays on 29th give sweets to the children who have assembled for this event.
The intention of this event is to imbibe 5 sacred Indian values in both Parents and their
children –
• Matru devobhava – Saluting the mother for her sacrifices
• Pitru devobhava – Saluting the father for his sacrifices
• Acharya devobhava – Saluting the teachers for their sacrifices
• Atiti devobhava – Saluting the guests for teaching us to respect each and every
life form
• Rashtra devobhava – Saluting the Nation for its Greatness
The method of celebrating this is by lighting a Jyoti – Which symbolizes progress and
knowledge. Experienced people share their lessons and knowledge on life to inspire the
young minds. Ayushkama Homa is conducted to pray for an extended and healthy
physical, mental and spiritual life of these little minds. Children enthusiastically prostrate
their parents, the elders and the nation and make a vow to serve the country selflessly.
