A cell is like…
…a castle.
The nucleus is like the owner
because the owner controls the castle: what they do to it,
how they manage it, and how they live in it day to day.
The cell membrane is like a door because the door is
what lets people enter and exit the castle as they please.
The cell wall is like a wall because it protects the
outside weather from damaging inside and the owner.
It also separates different rooms from each other.
The endoplasmic reticulum is like a hallway because it
lets people move throughout the castle to the room that
they desire.
The Golgi apparatus is like an office because this room
is where you can write mail or package mail and send it
out.
The mitochondrion is like a fuse box because it is
the main source for electricity.
The vacuole is like a kitchen because the water comes
through the sink. The food is stored in the pantry and
fridge, and all of the wastes are stored in the
garbage/trash cans.
The ribosome is like a bedroom because this is where
babies can be made.
Plant and Animal Cell Comparison
• On the outside, plants have a cell
wall.
• Plants go through chemical processes
such as photosynthesis and cell
respiration.
• They are green in color because of
chlorophyll.
• They have chloroplasts.
• They are square in shape due to the
cell wall.
• They have one large central vacuole.
• They provide structure and support.
• Animals do not have a cell wall but
instead they have a cytos skeleton on
the inside.
• They also go through cell
respiration.
• They are white, pink, and red due to
blood.
• They do not have any chloroplasts.
• They can be any shape.
• They have many small vacuoles.
• Animal cells also provide structure
and support.
