Course Description: This is a comprehensive course that will focus on the study of man
from the beginning of civilization to present day history. We will cover the information
using a geographic themed approach. We will cover the history of each of the major
geographic region from the beginning of time to recent time. There are five regions that
we will cover
Format: Lecture, discussion, writing assignments, cooperative learning, class
participation, independent reading, vocabulary practice, homework, projects, and
presentations.

Parallel Reading: In addition to the text, this class will also include various other reading
materials, such as primary materials, magazine articles, internet articles, etc. These will
be provided by the teacher. A report on an outside book, either a historical fiction novel
or a biography/autobiography will be required for each semester. These will be eraappropriate books of your choosing. A list of books available in the media center will be
provided. If you choose a book that is not on the list, the book must be approved by the
teacher prior to the assignment. This cannot be a book that you have read, or are
currently reading, for another class.
In order to be successful in this class, you MUST read at home. It is expected that you
spend 30 MINUTES minimum, at home every day, reading and preparing for Honors
World History.
Absences/Make-up work:
 Per county policy, you have a maximum of 10 school days to make up any work
due to absences. YOU AS THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT will have to request
the makeup work.
 A zero will be entered into the grade book for the assignment until it has been
made up. On the 11th school day, the zero will become permanent.
 Make ups will be given before and after school or during lunch by appointment
with me.
 Test days are Mondays and Thursdays-please try to be present on these
days to avoid make-up tests.
Class Behaviors:
 Come prepared for class every day. The following materials need to be brought
everyday: Laptop, Notebook, pen/pencil, and paper.
 Make sure your laptop is charged and ready to go every day of class.
 Respect the free flow of ideas and opinions of your classmates at all times.
Personal attacks will not be tolerated. Off-color, lewd, or intolerant remarks, orally
or in writing, will not be tolerated. Be critical of ideas, NOT people.
 Any form of cheating, including copying the work of others, will result in a ZERO
and a call home to your parents. IF CAUGHT CHEATING, THERE WILL BE NO
CHANCE OF A MAKEUP ASSIGNMENT.
 Food and drinks are allowed in the classroom. This privilege will be revoked if
you do not clean up after yourselves.
 Please go to your locker and/or the restroom before you come to class. No
passes will be given during the first and last 10 minutes of class.
 MEET ALL DEADLINES: Assignments are due at the beginning of class unless
otherwise indicated. Daily and homework assignments will not be accepted after
the due date. Late projects will be deducted 10 points per day.
 Additional class rules will be discussed in class; Cherokee County School
policies and the rules listed in the Cherokee High School Student Handbook will
be followed.
Cell Phone Policy:
- No cell phones will be permitted in class.
Detention:
- Students who break the Classroom rules will be issued a detention. This is
done on the teacher level, and is not an administrational punishment.
- Students who do not show up for their assigned detention will be issued a 2 nd
detention. Students who do not show up for the 2nd detention will be written
up.
- Detention times, 7:15-8:20 AM, 3:35-4:05 PM, or 35 consecutive minutes
during the students lunch period. (Students will be allowed to eat
before/during detention)
- Detention will be served in Room 932 unless otherwise specified.
Course Materials:
 Work due- please do not leave this at home or in your locker.
 Writing utensils (pen in blue or black ink or pencil).
 A 3-ring binder that will hold at least 1 inch of loose leaf paper. Please do not use
spiral notebooks.
Grading: Grading will be done on a percentage system. Each semester will be graded
as follows:
 35% Summative Assessments (Test, Projects, Final Exam)
 25% Formative Assessments (Quizzes)
 40% Homework & Daily Grades

Final Note:
Please be aware that honors world history will have more in-depth and rigorous content
than regular world history. One important goal of this course is to provide students with
skills necessary to read, understand, and analyze a wide range of materials other than
the textbook. In order to achieve this goal, and to facilitate class discussion, students
will be held strictly accountable for the completion of all reading assignments. Writing
will also be a focus of honors world history. This class will include more writing
assignments, both formal and informal, than regular world history.
