Estimada Nuria:

A NEW PLANET
Warm up/presentation stage.
Activity 1:
We revise vocabulary related to Solar System, using the white interactive board,
showing the different pictures of the planets and using them to introduce some
characteristic about the different resources in these planets some years ago...
Was there water in Mars? Did animals live in Venus some years ago? Was
there oxygen in Uranus atmosphere?
I try to motivate them and increase their interest in the next activity.
Practice/comprehensive stage:
Activity 2: Fact Card
Grouping: individual work
SKILL. reading
I give my pupils a short text related to Neptune, some years ago.
Characteristics, position in the solar system, Moons, Weather...They have to
read it and underline what they consider important information. Then they have
to complete a FACT CARD with the information.
Activity 3: A new planet
Grouping: Small group
Skill: speaking and writing
I divide the class into groups. They have to chose their name : Apollo XII,
Challenger.....and choose a Captain, a secretary ( who writes down the
information) and some researchers (who look for information in the computer)
I give each group a similar Fact Card and they have to complete with the
correspondent information: Name of the Planet, Colour, Size, resources...of a
planet from the Solar System
Expressive/comprehension stage:
Activity 4: Describe your planet.
Grouping: small group
Skill: writing
Now, with their Card Fact they have to make a short text describing the planet.
Each group captain has to explain their descriptions to their mates.
FACT CARD
Neptune is the eight planet in our Solar System. It is dark blue in colour,
and it has got eight moons. Astronomers discovered Neptune in 1846.
It is a big planet: 48600 kilometres around the middle.
It is 4.497 milion kilometres from the sun.
One day on Neptune is about sixteen Earth hours and one year is
nearly 165 Earth years.
The weather on Neptunr is terrible. It is always cloudy and it is very
windy.
