Search Engine Optimization
MARKETING
(SEM)
Brianna,
Chase & Nicole
Search Engine Optimization Marketing is...
A paid advertising used to make your website
more visible in search results, it’s also a way to
make your search engine optimization more
prominent, leading to your website become closer
to the top.
Google AdWords is the most popular paid search platform used
by search marketers, followed by Bing Ads.
Advantages:
● Very useful way of promoting your business (traffic)
● A way to view analytics (trackable)
● Put your product/service out for customers who are searching for it
● Trusted by customers (top result is the best result?)
● Make your brand memorable
● Test a new marketing campaign
Disadvantages
● Can often be very expensive to advertise
● Can be time consuming to find specific advertisers, and ad does not
necessarily jump to the top result over night
● Keywords can be competitive
● Adjusting to changes of search engines’ ever changing algorithms
AIDA Model
Attention: SEM does an excellent job with creating consumer awareness. Paid advertising gives
businesses the ability to jump their sites to the top; therefore, grabs the attention of the consumer more.
Interest: Grabbing the interests of consumers may become difficult if the paid advertisement is not
exactly what the consumer is looking for. So the business must carefully select important keywords to
keep/grab the interest of the consumer.
Desire: The consumer develops a desire through SEM by advertising useful products/information that a
consumer finds to be reliable within the company’s site. If a consumer sees reliability in the
advertisement then they are more likely to have the desire to want to return to their site, and use it more in
the future.
Action: The action that a consumer would take through SEM would be choosing the
advertisement that was produced by using paid SEM techniques.
Target Market for Western Marketing Program
The target market that SEM would work best for the marketing program would be
ALL STUDENTS.
This would benefit anyone interested in the marketing program because, from high school
students to nontraditional students, using SEM for the marketing program’s site could gain
more traffic. All students might search different phrases in a search engine but with more
SEO and SEM, the more likely these students are likely to see Western’s site.
What is Surprising?
Search engines have over 100 billion
inquiries each month.
Search engines are the #1 driver of
traffic to content websites
75% percent of search engine users
never scroll past the first page of
results.
18% of organic clicks go to the site in
the #1 position on Google.
Biggest Misconception.
SEO is the key to making content rank
higher in natural search results. These are
“free listings”; however, most companies
will pay professionals in SEO to keep their
listing closer to the top. SEM, is the paid
ads that show up in the sponsored links or
sponsored results boxes.
These two are often confused and people
combine the two concepts together.
