Extension Choices for Global Warming, Greenhouse Effect, and
the Ozone Layer
1. Use resources on the Internet to write 10 facts on electric cars. Include how they could help
lower nitrous oxide emissions. Include the energy sources we could use to provide power for
the cars if we want to use non-polluting sources of energy. Create a pamphlet about your
research.
2. Research the relationship of ultraviolet radiation to skin cancer or cataracts. Create a poster
teaching people about this relationship, and how they can protect themselves.
3. Find out how ozone is created by lightning. Complete a powerpoint, brochure, cartoon,
prezi, etc. to teach the class.
4. Research the change in the shape of the Antarctic ozone hole every five years since 1957.
Draw the change and label each one. Analyze this, and tell how this change might affect our
environment.
5. Conduct an experiment using the scientific method, or make a poster illustrating at least 6
effects of greenhouse gasses.
6. Create an advertising campaign or commercial to promote awareness of what causes global
warming and what people can do to prevent the release of greenhouse gasses.
7. Write a fictional story or play illustrating the future effects of global warming/climate
change.
8. Create a futuristic map of the world showing the effects of global warming/climate change
on the physical features of the land, the earth’s productivity, and the types of plant/animal life
it can support. Make sure to include a key.
9. Creature a brochure informing people about global warming, greenhouse effect, or the
ozone layer. Include its importance, what causes harm to it, and how people can help.
10. Write a letter to your congressman asking what they are doing to make sure that global
warming is stopped, greenhouse gases are reduced, and the ozone layer starts to repair itself.
Suggest some ideas they can do to make sure our planet stays safe!
11. Student Choice- if you have an idea that interests you, come see me! We can come up with
an independent research project, or I can help you create your own experiment to test your
ideas!
