SAMy Anderson called the meeting to order at 12:34 PM.
1. A motion to approve the Minutes #3 was made and passed, 7-0-0 (Kiger/Ward).
2. Proposal from Applied Engineering and Technology Management for a new Bachelor of
Science Degree in Engineering. Approved 8-0-1, (10-13-16).
3. Proposal from Applied Health Sciences for the Elimination of the Environmental Health
Concentration from the Health Sciences Major. Approved 9-0-0, (10-13-16).
4. Proposal from Applied Health Sciences for Suspension of the Environmental Health Sciences
Minor due to the elimination of the Environmental Health Concentration from the Health
Sciences Major. Approved 9-0-0, (10-13-16).
5. The proposal from Criminology and Criminal Justice for revision of the Criminology and
Criminal Justice Major, becoming a B.S. degree only and course changes was discussed.
The HLC Degree Transformation has noted that many concentrations have been added to
majors. This actually prevents an outside major from taking the concentration. It would be
advantageous to make them minors as it would allow other majors to take the courses as a
minor. This proposal also allows credits to be added to the major without adding to the total
credits required. The courses being added were needed due to input from employers.
6. The proposal from Math and Computer Science for revision of the Mathematics Major was
discussed.
7. A motion to suspend the rules to allow for immediate voting was made and passed, 7-0-0,
(Kiger/Anderson).
8. A motion to approve the proposal from Criminology and Criminal Justice for revision of the
Criminology and Criminal Justice Major was made and passed, 7-0-0, (Rosenhein/Kiger).
9. A motion to approve the proposal from Math and Computer Science for revision of the
Mathematics Major was made and passed, 7-0-0, (Ward/Rosenhein).
10. The Committee accepted the EC recommendation for approval of the proposal from Earth
and Environmental Systems for revision of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Major, to
be a BS degree only.
11. The Committee accepted the EC recommendation for approval of the proposal from
Economics for revision of the Economics Major, to be a BS degree only.
12. The Committee accepted the EC recommendation for approval of the proposal from the
School of Music for revision of the Music Liberal Arts Major to be a B.A. only.
13. The Committee accepted the EC recommendation for approval of the proposal from the
School of Music for revision of the Music Major with Concentrations in Merchandising or
Business Administration, to be a B.S. degree only.
14. The Committee accepted the EC recommendation for approval of the proposal from Applied
Health Sciences for the revision of the Food and Nutrition Minor changing the name to
Nutrition Minor.
15. Executive Committee Report: B. Kilp stated that there were no CAAC actions.
16. Old Business: L. Rosenhein reminded the committee of the need to keep reviewing new
large programs seeking approval. Data from ORR on the current success of programs
meeting goals is needed. Additionally, there is a need for a clear policy on Certificates. If a
certificate is declared for a degree seeking students then it is fast tracked at the State level.
Most are for degree seeking students currently. The length should be 12-18 credits. Is it
acceptable to have 100% overlap in requirements? One problem is the term itself. In
teaching, for example, a certificate means they have finished the degree for teaching. It is as
Licensure, but international schools are confused into thinking that students with a
certificate are a qualified teacher. On the Grad side, certificates exist because there are not
minors. L. Rosenhein and SAMy Anderson will work with the Grad Council on the 12
credit limitation stated in the Grad Catalog.
