Year 11 Revision Evening
GCSE Food Technology
Wednesday, 25th March 2015
What will the paper cover?
• A mixture of Sustainable Design – year 10
work and Technical Aspects of Designing and
Making – year 11 work
• Paper is 1½ hours long
• 80 marks
Look at the revision booklet for all topics
that you could be tested on.
Use your revision guide to help you.
• Revision list
• Past papers – mark schemes:
OCR Food Technology A525 Sustainability and
Technical Aspects of Design and Making
• Practice reading questions – exam technique
• Make a list of key terms you don’t understand to
discuss in class
Plan ahead
Testing yourself and planning ahead are the two
strategies that have been proven to work
- the best strategy is to plan ahead and not do
all your revision on one subject in a block
before moving on to the next - a technique
called "distributed practice".
Help at home?
• Talk to your son/daughter about revision
• Mealtimes could be a good time to ask about
nutrients in foods, eg sources of protein, fat,
fibre, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals
• Ask them how sustainable are the
ingredients/foods - think about air miles
• Encourage them to look at food labels and
packaging – can they explain all of the symbols on
the packaging? What material is the packaging
and is it recyclable – how do you know it is?
Packaging symbols – words removed!
Remember -food
suitable for
freezing NOT a
freezer symbol

it must be a NEW
SCONE product.
Detailed annotation
explaining how the new
product meets each
point of the
specification.
We will practice these
questions in school.
The design question cont’d
Students might be asked to design a new product
for a shop/farm shop to promote the use of:
UK grown produce
Seasonal summer fruits or vegetables
Creative dishes
Nutritious products
You could test the student on
seasonal fruits or vegetables to
prepare for this type of question
Revising on the go – home or away!
• Students will be encouraged to photograph
revision notes and therefore can access them
