William Giles 5B1 May 14, 2014 The Pyramids of Ancient Egypt
The History of Ancient Egypt proves that the mysterious pyramids “filled with curses” stretch about sixty school buses in width. The amazing pyramids were built as a burial chamber for the great pharaohs. They took over twenty years to build and consisted of stone blocks made by cutting limestone blocks. The pyramids started being constructed in 2650 BC. The pyramids stand in Egypt. Some are in the wonderful town of Giza. The pyramids were constructed for the pharaohs which include Khufu (the first pyramid builder), Khafre, and Menkaure. The Great Pyramid covers thirteen acres and it stood at the towering height of 481 feet. The pyramids show that Egypt was a very successful civilization. Religion, Technology, and Writing as found in the pyramids help prove that Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. Technology as found in the pyramids such as boats, sledges, and tools and techniques help prove that Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. Boats were used in the construction of the pyramids in a creative way. The stones were loaded into the boats then were moved in canals closer to the site, an autobiography made by a man named Weni interpreted a boat containing granite and alabaster. Sledges were also used in the building of the pyramids. The stones were rested on sledges secured by rope moving on wet mud in wood frames covered in plaster with limestone chips (a painting at tomb Djehutihotep showed 172 men hauling a 58ton statue this way). Tools and techniques such as plumbobs, square levels, copper drills, saws, and copper chisels were also important technology in building the pyramids. Plumbobs and square levels were used to make sure block corners were square and the surfaces were flat, saws and copper drills were used by stonecutters, and copper chisels were used to smooth stone sides. This is how boats, sledges, and tools and techniques as found in the pyramids help prove that ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. Religion as found in the pyramids such as priests, belief in the afterlife, and mummifying help prove that Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. The pyramids were a big part of Egyptians belief in afterlife. In afterlife pharaohs live an eternal life working, eating and enjoying life just like on earth they also meet the god, Osiris. Priests were also very important in the pyramids and played an important role. Priests were a religious class that believed in the afterlife, mummified or (embalmed), and were in charge of religious purposes. Mummifying was also very important in religion in the pyramids. Mummys had tombs filled with objects and food that the ka (part of the spirit) would visit and use in the afterlife. This is how mummifying, belief in the afterlife, and priests as found in the pyramids help prove that Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. Writing as found in the pyramids such as hieroglyphics, scribes, and building records of the pyramids help prove that Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. Scribes were a big part of writing in the pyramids. Scribes were the writers and record keepers who had to start school at age five for 12 years learning a system of writing called hieroglyphics. The Egyptian system of writing, hieroglyphics, was also a big part of writing in the pyramids. Hieroglyphics consisted of 700 picture symbols that represent ideas and sounds, this system of writing was used in monuments, wall paintings, and religious texts. The scribes building records were a huge part of writing in the pyramids. The records consisted of the amount of stone needed for the pyramids, the kind needed, and the size, the records were then sent to the quarries where they would have order to work. This is how scribes, hierloglthics, and building records as found in the pyramids help prove that Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. Writing, Technology, and Religion as found in the pyramids help show and prove that the great ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations. The three traits Religion, Writing, and Technology are three out of the seven traits that are contained by ancient Egypt. The three traits work together with the other four to help prove that Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations ever. Ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations with the help of the traits and the pyramids, but are there more pyramids out there in unknown civilizations? Bibliography Allan, Tony.
