Shining Star B, Unit 3, Striving For Success
Green Growing Things
VIDEO WORKSHEET / Notes to the Teacher

Play the video segment on green growing things after you introduce the unit
theme, Striving For Success. Explain that in this unit, students will learn about
different kinds of success. For example, plants need certain conditions to grow
successfully. In this video students will learn about plants, and how they grow.
While viewing the video clip, ask students to watch for the three different plant
groups. Also have students take notes about the characteristics of each group.
After viewing, divide students into groups of three. Then looking at their notes
about the different plant groups, ask them to draw an example of a plant from
each of the three plant groups. Next bring the students back together. Have
them think about the plants in their neighborhoods. Discuss with them the
different types of plants they see every day and the characteristics of those
plants.

When the class has finished reading How Seeds and Plants Grow on page 120
of the student text, show the video once again. Before viewing, review the photo
of the plant and its parts found on page 120. Distribute the Unit 3 Worksheet.
Have the students complete the True/False section and then check the answers
as a group. Collect the worksheets.

Show the video one final time, after the students complete Part 2 Review on
page 127 of the Student Book. Redistribute the worksheets prior to showing the
video. Have the students complete the Short Answer section of the worksheet,
and then have them discuss the answers in small groups.
