Lesson Plans: November 26th – November 30th Monday: 1. System 44 / TeenBiz3000 2. “Shining Star” Unit # 4 “Conflict” Objectives: Vocabulary building Context, dictionary skills Reading Strategy: Noting Causes and effects Students will read the Reading Strategy test as a choral reading. I will point out that history texts are often written using a cause and effect organization. This type of text structure explains how or why something happens. Students will identify Cause and Effect this way: 1. Look for an event or action that causes, or makes something happen. 2. Pay attention to the effect, or what happens as a result of an event or action. 3. Look for signal words, such as because, so, due to , and as a result. Tuesday: 1. System 44/ TeenBiz3000 “Shining Star” World War I Students will read aloud the passages and answer the following questions: Why do you think the Serbians were upset by the visit of Archduke Franz Ferdinand? Do you think war might have been declared even if Archduke Ferdinand had not been assassinated? Why or Why not? Students will write the vocabulary words in their notebooks and find the meaning of words in the dictionary. Wednesday: 1. Vocabtest / SAT Practice 2. Newspaper article: Students will read and cut 20 words and find their synonyms in the dictionary. They write them in their notebooks. Thursday: 1. System 44 / TeenBiz3000 2. “Shining Star” Grammar – Cause – and effect Students will re-read the text. Copy the chart into their notebooks. Then they will write a fact about each country. Students will complete the chart on Pg. 144 looking at the map on pg. 136 Friday: 1. System 44/ Teenbiz3000 2. Book Report – (Project) Students will write a summary of the book they read in class with their assigned groups. They will also have time allocated to find pictures related to the book they read and cut them for their cardboard projects.
