Introduction to The Odyssey WebQuest
Introduction
In order to gain an appreciation for The Odyssey, it is essential for the reader to have an understanding of
the background of the story. This background includes an understanding of the ancient Greek gods,
monsters, and places relevant to the story. It is important for the reader to have background knowledge of
ancient Greek mythology in order to explore the story fully. By completing this WebQuest, you will
obtain background information that is essential to understand the story.
Task
In groups of three-four, you will have the opportunity to visit several websites in order to gain
information about ancient Greek gods, monsters, and places relevant to The Odyssey. In your groups, you
will each have the role of researching the topics listed below. When you have found all of the necessary
information, each of you will create slides for your group presentations using either PowerPoint or Prezi.
The presentations should accurately paint a clear picture of the event, person, god or goddess you have
researched.
Requirements
 Groups should split the work evenly.
 Each member must prepare and present at least TWO slides.
 Slides should be visually pleasing and well-written (IN YOUR OWN WORDS—don’t lift
material from the websites).
o Use images, colors, interesting text, etc.!
 Prepare for your presentation. You need to be rehearsed, coherent, and appropriately
enthusiastic.
 Any information in your presentation that is NOT from one of the websites provided MUST
be cited internally, and on a Works Cited slide.
