Unit Assessment - 100 points
1. Group (50 points): Free response, groups of students within 10% of grade
2. Individual (50 points; 25 multiple choice)
Extension Opportunities for Unit 3
1. Complete the Periodic Trends Activity for two periodic trends. You will need
to graph the data (Excel), describe the trends, and explain the trend in a
typed report. Your explanation should include a discussion of coulombic
attraction and explain WHY the trend occurs.
2. Electron configuration packet: Come get packet in class! Complete the packet
and answer the questions on the cover sheet.
3. Research and write a report (minimum 2 pages) on the discovery of new
elements. One element needs to be an element #1-50. The second element
needs to be an element #51-118. Some information that is crucial to include
are: who discovered it and when; how the element was discovered; its
predicted properties based on its location on the periodic table; use or
application of discovery. Please make sure that your sources are valid and
factual, and cite them on a resource page at the end of your report.
