Savannah Grassland Biome
By: Mia, Leo, Nadim, and Anna
Meteorologist-Mia
• Temperatures:
All of their rain in the summer
Temperatures range 88 to 86 degrees F
Most of the time it's cooler in the dry season
only by a few degrees.
Winter temp range from 68 to 78 dredges F.
Summer 78 to 86 dredges F.
It does not change a lot.
Meteorologist
• precipitation:
10-30in of rain
December to February almost no rain falls
20-50 inches) per year
• sunlight/daylight totals:
the sun comes up at about 6:45 A.M. and it sets around 7:30
p.m.
Humidity:
in the summer, it's moist and very humid. west of the
Mississippi river it's warm moist and extremely humid.
• Wind velocity:
There is not a lot of natural barriers so there is content wind.
They wind would make everything very windy.
Weather patterns
• this shows that in June, July, August, and September the most rain falls
and the temperature is the highest compared to January, February, March,
April, May, October, November, and December.
• The weather patterns month to month predict a lot of rain and the
substantial amount of rain may eliminate the other factors, which can stop
the growth of trees. Another theory suggest that the grasslands and
Savannahs will only expand not shrink Because of climate change By
devastation, if there are fewer trees to soke up moisture grasses. Will
flourish Evan move and maybe over take the areas that surrounded the
grasslands and Savannah ecosystem. Also fewer trees will Be less healthy
air for humans and animals.
Geographer-Anna
• Where They Are
• The Savannah biome is found in Africa, South
America, India, and Australia.
• What Is In There
• Savannas are flat and have trees widely spread
and scattered. The trees are more regularly
spaced as a forest too.
Savanna may have a river or a drinking hole
for the animals.
Geographer
• Large areas of Australian and South American
savannas have been cleared of trees, and this
clearing is continuing today. For example until
recently 480,000 trees of the savanna were
cleared annually in Australia alone primarily to
improve pasture production.
Botanist-Leo
• Tropical grasslands are dominated by grasses, often 3
to 6 feet tall at maturity. They may have some
drought-resistant, fire-resistant or browse-resistant
trees, or they may have an open shrub layer. They
develop in regions where the climax community
should be forest, but drought and fire prevent the
establishment of many trees. All these factors
contribute on what and what not can grow their.
Sunlight and soil affects what can grow. All of these
plants can live in dry and sometimes wet climates.
Plants
• Acacia Previously contained roughly 1,300 species, about 960 of
them native to Australia. While its unique shape and blossoms are eyecatching, the Acacia's appearance reveals just a hint of its functions.
Recognizing the many aspects of your life that are impacted by the Acacia
will help you truly appreciate all the tree has to offer.
• Cat Tails The inflorescence is sometimes used in flower
arrangements. Due to the few leaves, it is seldom grazed. It is sometimes a
weed in disturbed places, but is easy to control mechanically.
Plants
• Bonatea is an orchid native to tropical and southern Africa, with one
species extending into Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
• Rhododendron
Australian Rhododendron is small shrub growing to one meter tall. The glossy
leaves are elliptical and grow up to 10 cm long and 5 cm wide, and are
thick and stiff.
Plants
• The biennial red and green kangaroo paw is the floral
emblem of Western Australia. What really catches the eye is the plants
green unscented flowers that can grow up to 10 centimeters long. The
green furry flowers are attached to the sturdy red stem.
•
The Eucalyptus cinerea grows to an average of 20 to 30 feet tall.
Young leaves are round, grey-green, and about 1 inch in diameter and
grow opposite each other on the stem. They become longer, more oval
shaped with pointed ends as they get older. The flowers are a creamy
white and grow in 1 inch clusters.
