Instructor Biography Ms. Wan was born and raised in Hong Kong. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University. She passed the Arizona Educator Professional Assessments and NES® in Secondary Professional Knowledge, Middle Mathematics, and Mathematics. She has 10 years of teaching experience in middle school math. She has served AIMS committee for 4 years. Course Description This course is based on the Arizona’s College & Career Ready Standards. It covers formal mathematical concepts in five areas: The Number System; Expressions & Equations; Linear Functions; Geometry; Statistics & Probability. In the 4th quarter, emphasis is placed on studying algebra in context through problem solving and real life applications. Frequent tardies and absenteeism will affect a student’s grade. Over ten absences may result in withdrawal from the class. Behavior/ Classroom Guidelines 1) Students are to have 4 graph notebooks with pencil when class starts. 2) Students are to clean up after themselves after class and pick up the floor around them. 3) Students are to follow all terms of the Grand Canyon Prep Behavior and Dress Code Policies and Academic Contract. 4) Students are to be courteous and respectful to their classmates and Grand Canyon Prep staff. 5) Students are to be in their seat when class starts. 6) Students, unless given permission by staff, are to leave all non-class related items in your school bag. 7) Students, unless given permission by staff, are not to eat or drink during class time. 8 ) Students are to attend class 95 percent of the time or risk withdrawal from that class. 9) Students are to always follow the direction of the teacher. Cell Phone/Mobile Device/Lap Top/Calculator Policy Unless directed by the instructor, all cell phone and mobile devices are to be turned into the front of the classroom at the beginning of the class. Laptops are to remain closed unless the instructor says otherwise. No calculator is needed. Grade Distribution Policy All grades in this course are based on a hundred-point scale.
