Title:
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE DEBUSSY STRING QUARTET IN THE HISTORY OF WESTERN CLASSICAL
MUSIC
Abstract:
The French composer Claude Achille Debussy (1862-1918) was one of the important
composers of the impressionist music of the beginning of the 1900’s. His different approach to the
traditional harmonies and forms distinguished Debussy in the history of the western classical music.
Especially his G minor, Op. 10 String Quartet has an significant place in the history of music because
of its musical revolutions. The paper will outline these musical revolutions with the perspective of
the historical side and it will contain a detailed form of the quartet. There will be a power point
presentation and also a listening of the important parts of the quartet.
