Technologist-II /Technologist-III, Manufacturing and Trial Manufacturing (an Hourly role), training
towards Unit Operation Leader – Powder Processing (a Salary role)
4000-14
Salary Range:
$25.00 to $33.60 per hour (depending on experience); plus a 0-to-30% Performance Bonus; a 40 hour
work week; we have a highly comprehensive and competitive benefits package inclusive of a GRRSP with
a matching DPSP.
Experience:
5 – 10 years related hands-on commercial industrial experience in a Manufacturing setting.
Closing Deadline:
Until filled.
Education:
 2 year diploma Materials Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering
Technology or Nano Systems Engineering Technology.
 Training with materials processing equipment and materials handling equipment (forklift, cranes) would be an asset.
Specific Skills/Background Required:
 High level of proficiency and excellent mechanical aptitude to operate complex equipment and demonstrated technical
knowledge and the ability to work with chemicals, especially fine powders, in a safe and comfortable manner.
 Self-starter with sound judgement, strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
 Ability to accurately follow procedures, take direction and have strong record and note keeping skills.
 Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to accurately follow and
adhere to written and verbal instructions.
 Basic mathematical skills.
 Flexible and able to work within deadlines required.
 Good physical ability to move moderately heavy and/or bulky material using lifting equipment in safe manner.
 Strong work ethic with demonstrated accountability and reliability in punctuality and work attendance.
 Able to organize, set priorities and adapt to various situations.
 Ability to work efficiently, independently, and as required in a team environment.
 Able to work effectively and adhere to the highest standards of quality, reliability, and safety including using and
wearing protective personal equipment appropriately.
 Mature/responsible individual with solid previous leadership experience an asset.
 Good hands on computer experience, data entry with strong attention to detail. Experience with Excel and Access
would be beneficial.
Brief Job Description
Responsibilities (with training) include assisting in the following Unit Operations, as required:
 Learn to perform all tasks associated with powder processing and production of coating consumables. Includes
preparation of powder charges, processing and monitoring of all critical process operations.
 Troubleshooting.
 Perform/oversee repair and preventative maintenance.
 Assist in commissioning existing and new equipment for Manufacturing and Trial Manufacturing.
 General manufacturing equipment operator (cranes, pallet jacks, etc.).
 Maintain data/process logs of maintenance and of part supply inventory.
 Assist in maintaining a clean and organized powder operation area.
 Wear appropriate PPE, to deal with fine dust, noise and handling of heavy equipment / materials.
 Backup to the day-to-day operations and performance to deliver high quality product in a Powder Processing area.
The work may also include with training:
 Surface pre and post finishing of components for coating.
 Preparation of components such as tubes and complex shapes for processing.
 Heat treatment of coated components.
 Operating metal surface preparation equipment such as grinders, polishers and grit blasters to remove excess welds,
rust, scale and other material from surfaces of metal parts, castings and other metal products.
 Transporting raw materials, work-in-progress and finished products either manually, using cranes or other devices.
 Safe handling and storage of materials, some repetitive tasks. Reading and understanding Materials Safety Data
Sheets; observation of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines, processes and procedures.
With the right candidate fit and demonstrated capabilities this position can advance towards a salaried Unit Operation
Leader position, once fully trained:
 Back-up coverage to Senior Supervisor, Coating and Powder Processing, as required.
 Strong understanding and hands-on capabilities of the full operation powder processing area.
 Supervise/lead and oversee training of employees in powder processing.
 Monitor staff productivity in order to meet desired goals and company delivery objectives.
 Work with management to improve on delivery lead time on projects as required.
