AFFORDABLE CARE ACT (ACA) INFORMATION As many of you know GPO has encouraged FDLP libraries to participate in an effort to extend information regarding the ACA implementation in our communities. To that end I have included a little information here that will hopefully be helpful. Some of the information you will already be aware of, and some may be new to you. I will continue to pass on information as it becomes available. ILLINOIS ROLE: Illinois is working with the Federal Government in a State/Federal partnership for implementation of the Affordable Care Act in Illinois, with rollout beginning October 1st. The state will conduct the plan management, marketing, outreach and customer assistance. (For more information check out the Kaiser Foundation, State Profile link listed below). ASSISTERS PROGRAM: To help with the rollout, there will be three levels of “Assisters”, in Illinois, to help guide people through the process. These Assisters are: Navigators, who are fully trained and federally funded; In-Person Councilors (ICPs), who are trained and funded through state grant money; and Certified Application Councilors, non-paid professionals and interested parties who are there to assist with the application process. Both the Navigators and ICPs have gone through extensive training and work to promote the program as well as to assist in its implementation. If you would like to have a program or information session in your library these might be the people to contact for assistance. Currently, Navigators can be found at the heathcare.gov website. WEBSITES: The main state website where citizens of Illinois should be directed to go for information and signup for the ACA in Illinois is, http://getcoveredillinois.gov. This site will be up and running soon – it should be up October 1st. OTHER GOVERNMENTAL RESOURCES: Federal Website for ACA information https://www.healthcare.gov/.
