Students
I. Program Goals and Requirements
1. Program Goals
Based on our undergraduate program of clinical medicine, the program for
international students is designed to provide highly qualified medical talents to
hospitals and medical institutions at different levels in their home countries. The
program will enable them to gain a solid theoretical knowledge and a solid foundation
for clinical skills, and develop a good ethics to meet the basic requirements of
medical services and medical teaching and research at these institutions.
2. Requirements for Professional Training
Moral Quality and Ethics:
(1)
Foster a proper understanding of the world, life and values, and consider curing
diseases and maintaining the patients’ physical and mental health as one’s duty.
(2)
Love work in the field of medicine, commit to public health services and have
strong work ethics.
(3)
Have strong interpersonal skills, be good at communcating with patients, families,
and colleagues, always be ready to learn and work with other professionals.
(4)
Be a lifelong learner, pursue excellence and be eligible for further studies in a
specific discipline.
(5)
Have a realistic scientific attitude, and actively seek help from other medical
professionals in case of problems.
(6)
Have a strong innovation awareness, have a critical spirit, have a strong ability to
collect information and adapt to situations.
(7)
Master the principles of medical ethics.
(8)
Preliminarily master the basic knowledge of Chinese language and be familiar

with Chinese culture.
Requirements for Professional Knowledge:
(1)
Master the basic theories and methods of mathematics, physics, chemistry and
other natural sciences in the medical field.
(2)
Obtain knowledge and scientific methods of biological science, behavioral
science and social science, and be able to use them in future learning and medical
practice.
(3) Understand the structure and functions of the body in each stage, as well as their
physiological and psychological states.
(4)
Know the common diseases in each stage, the etiology of frequently-occurring
diseases, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and the principles of
preventing and curing diseases.
(5) Obtain basic pharmacological knowledge and the principles of rational clinical
medication.
(6)
Master the knowledge of pregnancy, childbirth, obstetric emergencies and
maternal and child health.
(7)
Master the knowledge and methods for disease prevention, health care,
rehabilitation, clinical epidemiology and dealing with public health emergency.
(8)
Grasp the basic principles of the occurence and spread of infectious diseases and
the prevention methods of common infectious diseases.
(9)
Master the knowledge of diagnosis and therapies for common critical illnesses.
(10) Understand the basic characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and its
therapeutic principles.
(11) Understand the function of scientific experiments in medical research.
Requirements for Professional Skills:
(1)
Be able to obtain a complete and accurate medical history from patients.
(2)
Be able to conduct physical examinations and write accurate medical records.
(3)
Have good clinical thinking and expression skills.
(4)
Be capable of referring patients to the appropriate laboratory tests and analyzing
the results.
(5)
Be able to analyze the history and the results of physical examinations in a
comprehensive way, and make proper diagnosis and treatment plans

(6)
Be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with patients and their
families.
(7)
Master the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases and acute and chronic
diseases.
(8)
Be able to diagnose common critical diseases and handle emergency cases.
(9)
Be familiar with medical developments and the latest national and international
medical achievements.
(10) Master the basic methods for statistical analysis and computer application, be able
to process information and perform scientific research and be creative.

IV. Curriculum
The curriculum consists of required and elective courses.
1. Required Courses
51 required courses with a total of 3,312 contact hours. Among them, there are 5
general courses with 558 contact hours, making up 16.8% of the total, 22
elementary courses with a total of 1,440 contact hours, representing 43.5%, and
26 professional courses with 1,314 contact hours, representing 39.7%. Lecture
and laboratory courses have a ratio of 1:0.689.

Clinical internship: 48 weeks in total--Internal Medicine (15 weeks), Surgery (15
weeks), Obstetrics and Gynecology (4 weeks), Pediatrics (3 weeks),Ophthalmology (2
weeks),Otolaryngology (2 weeks),Radiology (2 weeks),Neurology Practice (2 weeks),
Emergency (2 weeks), and Dermatology and Venerology (1 week).
VI. Arrangement and Requirements of Extracurricular Activities
1.Attend over two academic lectures per semester. Five lectures attended equals to 1
credit. and doesn’t depend on the total class hours.
2.Innovation credits: students can participate in research projects of teachers or
extracurricular research projects. Innovation credits can replace the credits of the
elective courses.
3.Clinical Internship:The Internship in Clinical Medicine is 48 weeks from July in any
year to June of the following year, in which there are 15 weeks for Internal Medicine,
15 weeks for Surgery, 4 weeks for Gynecology & Obstetrics, 3 weeks for Pediatrics,
2weeks for Neurology,2 weeks for Radiology, 2 week for Ophthalmology, 2 weeks for
Otorhinolaryngology , 2 weeks for Emergency Practice and 1 weeks for Dermatology.

The internship is arranged at the teaching hospitals of Liaoning Medical University
according to the internship schedule.

VII. Performance Evaluation, Graduation and Degree Awarding
The performance evaluation consists of course examinations and the graduation
examinations. The course examinations cover all the required courses and elective
courses. The graduation examinations include the clinical internship examination and
the graduation examination in the 6th year. According to Liaoning Medical University’s
Administration Rules for International Students, international students who finish all
the courses and pass all the examinations will be allowed to graduate and will be
awarded a certificate of graduation. Those who fulful the the requirements stipulated in
Liaoning Medical University’s Degree Awarding Regulations for International
Students will be awarded a certificate of the bachelor's degree of medicine.
