Project BG03.PDP1: Improving the Bulgarian Biodiversity Information System
(IBBIS)is in accordance with the goals of
the programme BG03 - Biodiversity and
ecosystem services, requirements of the
Biodiversity Act and the Biodiversity
strategy 2020. It is a sequel of the project
BG0052 “Development of the IS of the
NBMS in Bulgaria” financed by EEA grants
2004-2009.

Project BG03.PDP1:
Improving the Bulgarian Biodiversity
Information System
(IBBIS)
PROJECT OBJECTIVE:
The objective aim is to improve the management
and analysis of incoming information for biological groups, ecosystems and the impact of invasive species on the natural scenery in Bulgaria by
upgrading additional functionalities and modules
in the Information System of the National Biodiversity Monitoring System.
Specific goals:
• Analysis of monitoring data if biodiversity;
• Possibility for mapping ecosystems and ecosystem services on national, regional and
local level;
• Creating a specific software for data entry
for invasive species and methods for assessing the risk of invasive species;
• Designing indicators for
analysis and
assessment of biodiversity;
PROJECT BENEFITS:
• Updated and public national system for
collecting biodiversity, ecosystem and invasive species data.
OUTPUTS:
• Modernized Information System of the
National Biodiversity Monitoring System (NBMS)
• Providing an intelligent approach to
collecting data for environment components, ecosystems and ecosystem services.
• Module for collecting, mapping and analysis
of the status of the ecosystems and their
services
• Designing indicators for analysis and
assessment of biodiversity by a specialized
software for calculating of the Bulgarian
natural index.
• Module for collecting, mapping and analysis
of the impact of invasive species on the native
Bulgaria species
• Better awareness of ecosystem approach
and biodiversity importance among local
groups and policy-makers.
• Module for assessment of the status of
selected species and natural habitats and for
presenting biodiversity indicators
