DC MACHINE
DC generator or Dc machines one kind of rotating rnachine which gives dc output due to presence of
commutator. There are mainly advantages of dc machine but main advantage is that it provides wide range
of speed control and quick reversal.
Advantages:It can give high starting torque according to load requirement, high accelerating torfqure and
decelerating torque.
It possesses high flexibility.
Its characteristics can be modified by using feed back.
To minimize eddy current damping, magnetic circuit of dc machine is completely laminated..
Applications/:Dc machines are used as starter motor in most of automokiles.
In windshield wiper motor, fan motor and in other rehiches dc macihes are used.
BASIC DEFINATINOS FOR CONSTRUCTION PARTS:(Parts of any electrical rotating machine)
1. Stotor:- This is the stationary part of rotating machine.
2. Rotor :- This is the rotating part of electrical machine.
Slots are cut on inner periphery of stator and outer periphery of rotor.
Winding is paced on the slots.
Field winding:- This winding of electrical machine is responsible for production of rotating flux in electrical
machine.
4. Armature winding :- This winding is responsible for production of working emf (voltage) in electrical
machine.
5. Airgap :- Airgap is used to set up the magnetic field produced by field winding.
6. Commutator :- The basic function of commutator is to convert AC in to equiralent DC .
7. Brushes:- The basic function of brushes is to collect current from commutator.
8. Yoke:- It provides mechanical support to electrical machines.
OPERATING PRINCIPLE:Dc machine based on principle that “wheneverfuix is cut by a conductor an e.m.f. is induced which will cause a
current to flow if the conductor cirwit is closed.”
Direction of pnduced emf is obtained by right hand haumb rule.
These are electrical machine in which machenical energy is converted into electrical energy.
