In the first part of the Course, periodic and infinite solids will be addressed,
which are described in terms of simple single-particle models. Special care is
given to providing quantitative estimates. In the second part, the properties
determined
by
complex
electron
interactions
(Ferromagnetism,
Superconductivity, Screening) and defects are addressed. Here the focus is on
concepts.

renewable sources for energy, with focus on energy from Sun Topics. Energy:
General Introduction and renewable energy. An overview. Photovoltaic effect.
Photovoltaic devices: photovoltaic parameters, operational principles, limits.
Classes of materials and photovoltaic devices: - First-generation solar cells:
single and multi-crystalline silicon; - Second-generation solar cells: inorganic
thin film cells; - Third-generation solar cells: organic and hybrid (Graetzel) thin
film cells; - Third-generation solar cells: concentration, multi-junction, quantum
