EXB0014
Bovine Serum Albumin – Dyomics 547
Lyophilized (5 mg)
Intended Use:
Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) conjugates are commonly used as a probes in intracellular
processes, as receptor-mediated endocytosis, exocytosis and intracellular protein
processing.
Background:
Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) is a 66 kDa large globular protein with a good essential
amino acid profile. Isolated BSA has been reported to be a very functional protein
(Waniska et al., 1981). Its primary biological function has been associated with its lipid
binding properties (Fox and Flynn, 1992), but the mechanism of this role has not been
clearly elucidated. It may play a role in mediating lipid oxidation. BSA can be used as a
blocking agent or added to diluents in numerous biochemical applications including
ELISA, blots and immunohistochemistry and it is also used as a nutrient in cell and
microbial culture. BSA is used because of its stability and its lack of effect in many
biochemical reactions.
Reagent Provided:
The vial contains 5 mg of lyophilized Bovine Serum Albumin labeled with fluorophore
Dyomics 547. When reconstituted in 1 ml of deionized water, the vial contains 5 mg/ml of
labeled BSA in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), pH 7.4.
Recommended
Procedure:
Reconstitute by 1 ml of deionized water. Spin the reagent before use.
The fluorescence excitation and emission maxima of the Dyomics 547 dye are as follows:
Excitation: 553, Emission: 574
Storage/Stability:
Lyophilized product is stable for at least 12 months at -20°C
After reconstitution, store in the dark at 2-8°C.
For long-term storage aliquot and store at -20°C. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.
Avoid prolonged exposure to light.
Do not use after expiration date stamped on vial label.
Short-term exposure to room temperature should not affect the quality of the reagent.
However, if reagent is stored under any conditions other than those specified, the
conditions must be verified by the user.
