For the optional wireless capability, please remove the rubber slot cover, before you can
put in a NETGEAR MA401 802.11b wireless PC card. Insert the PC card very carefully
to prevent any damage to the PC card and the print server wireless slot. Apply a proper
strength pushing the PC card firmly and slowly till the end of the slot.

Description
Connect with an IEEE1284 printer cable to printer
An uplink 10/100Mbps auto-sensing Ethernet port for
direct connection to an Ethernet 10Mbps, 10/100 Mbps,
and 100Mbps switch, or an Ethernet 10Mbps, 10/100
Mbps, and 100Mbps hub.
Press the button will have the following effect,
and Reset
Button
for less than two seconds, there is no effect to anything;
for two seconds, the status of the print server will be sent
and printed out to the printer. You get the wired and
wireless information for the print server as well. Note:
This is the best to get the unit IP address for it, since the
default setting for PS111W is DHCP client to get an IP
address from a DHCP server. Unless you get the print out,
it is hard to know the IP address for the unit.
12V DC
When power on, press for ten seconds, the PS111W will
load the factory default settings back and save it to the
flash memory permanently, i.e. you will loose the current
configuration in the PS111W. Warning: Use this function
with care.
Power Supply Plug in the supplied 12V 800mA power supply here.
Inlet
Please note for the polarity, if use a foreign power supply.
NETGEAR suggests you use the genuine NETGEAR
accessories to avoid damaging the unit. For the part reordering, please refer
to ………………………………………………………
Typical applications
You may need only one of the following applications.
Connection graphics
1
2
If you have no Ethernet connected PC need to print, use this configuration.
3
This is an invalid configuration for the wireless PC. Please connect the Access Point to
the Ethernet network. Refer to figure 1. The Access Point and wireless PCs are all
communicated in the infrastructure mode. There is no need for a NETGEAR MA401
802.11b wireless PC card in the PS111W print server.
4
If you don’t have an Access Point, the wireless PCs can communicate in the ad hoc mode
and print directly to PS111W print server.
5
Without an Access Point, you can have all your wired and wireless PCs print to the
PS111W print server.
Note: Please refer to the Installation and Reference Manual for the configuration of ad
hoc and infrastructure mode detail.
Note: It is possible to have other configurations work with PS111W print server.
However, NETGEAR has thoroughly considered all the possible combinations and
recommended users use only one of the above valid setups.
Please print this page out, if you don’t see the (3) crossed out.
Please note the number 3 scenario does not work for the ME102 Access Point. The
correct way to make an Access Point work with all wireless mobile PCs is to wire ME102
Access Point to the Ethernet DS108. Don’t need an MA401 in PS111W print server.
Install the print server
You can place the print server on a desktop or any flat surface. To save workspace, you
can also mount the print server with Velcro strips on the side of a printer. You can also
mount the PS111W print server on the wall with any kind of wall mounting kit.
Connect the printer cables
Connect an IEEE 1284 compliant cable (not provided) from the printer to the parallel
PRINTER port on the print server.
Connect the network cables
Connect an Ethernet (category 3 or above for 10Mbps and category 5 for 100Mbps) cable
from the print server to an Ethernet switch or hub.
Note: Ethernet specifications limit the unshielded twisted pair cable (called a twisted
pair segment; a.k.a. UTP) extended from a network port to 100 meters in length
Attach an 802.11b wireless PCMCIA card
Remove the rubber slot cover and attach the NETGEAR MA401 802.11b wireless
PCMCIA card (not included in the PS111W print server package; sold separately from
NETGEAR) to the side slot. Apply a proper strength pushing the PC card firmly and
slowly till the end of the slot.
Note: Please refer to section Typical Application for NETGEAR recommended
configurations.

There are 802.11b wireless PCs or not
There are 28 (256) possibilities totally in combination. All the nonsense and invalid are
eliminated. (Not recommended are removed as well.) There are two assumptions. If
there is an AP, the Ethernet to the AP is connected. And, once a PC is connected to the
Ethernet, no matter direct to a LAN or through a gateway, it is as a wired PC.

Verify power
Connect the power adapter first to the power receptacle on the rear panel of the print
server and then to the power outlet on the wall.
When power has been applied to the print server:

The green PWR (power) LED on the front panel is on, if there is one.

The green LAN LED on connected network port is on, and the amber WLAN LED with the
NETGEAR MA401 801.11b Wireless PC Card in PC card slot is on.
If you find any problems, refer to “Troubleshooting Information.” Make sure the network
interface cards installed in the workstations are in working condition and the software
driver has been installed on the cards. If required, verify the integrity of the print server
by resetting it. Turn power to the print server off and then back on.
Reset PS111W
If you think you have messed up the configuration, you may load the factory default
settings back. Turn power to the print server off. While turning it back on, press and hold
RESET button for 10 seconds. Re-configure the PS111W print server.
If the problem continues and you have completed all the preceding diagnoses, contact
NETGEAR Customer Support. For the telephone number of the representative in your
area, see the Support Information Card that is included in your package contents.
