Issues

Individually,
create a mind
map of what you
already know.
What is
GW?
What are
the
responses
to GW?
Global
Warming
What
causes
GW?
What are
the effects
of GW?
Combine ideas in small groups.
Global Warming vs
Climate Change
Global warming refers only to the Earth’s rising
surface temperature, while climate change
includes warming and the “side effects” of
warming—like melting glaciers, heavier
rainstorms, or more frequent drought.
Definitions
Global warming: the increase in Earth’s average
surface temperature due to rising levels of
greenhouse gases.
Climate change: a long-term change in the
Earth’s climate, or of a region on Earth.

infographic.

Research
• What are the projected impacts of climate
change on health in the UK according to the
Department of Health?
• Can you identify any other projected impacts
on health within the UK from other sources?

National Responses to Climate Change
1. What direct links can be
identified?
2. What indirect links can be
established?
3. Is there any content, in the
infographic, which isn’t
evidenced in the 2008
Climate Change Act?
4. How relevant is the
infographic to developing
nations?
Groundwater and
Climate Change
• Current global climate model
predictions are based on a
range of emissions scenarios
developed by the International
Panel on Climate Change in the
late 1990s.
• These scenarios encapsulate
different global economic
futures and are inherently
uncertain.
Climate Change and
Energy Supplies
• Increasing renewables should
increase health – is this
feasible?
Climate Change and
Global Effects
• Locate the projected effects shown by the NASA
on a world map: http://climate.nasa.gov/effects/
