Main Purpose of the Role
The Professional Development (PD) group exists to provide quality learning experiences to
members of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) and interested non-members to
enable their professional development.
The Product Development Advisor – Online and multimedia, in conjunction with the Manager,
Professional Development and Team Leader, Product Development, is responsible for the
management of a portfolio of online and multimedia professional development products. The
role executes product and portfolio planning, product conceptualisation and development
across various virtual delivery channels. Product Development Advisors manage the product
mix and product lifecycle in a way that is responsive to market needs and meets internal
strategic objectives.
Reporting Relationships
This role reports to the Team Leader, Product Development in the Professional Development
unit.
Other Key (non-reporting) Relationships
Key relationships include:
 Marketing team to ensure the marketing approach for each product and portfolio
enables the achievement of key objectives
 Regional and branch staff, particularly Regional Manager and Branch Coordinators, to
ensure state-specific considerations are taken into account in decision-making
 National Groups and other member/non-member groups to ensure the learning needs
of the profession are met
 Finance team in the formulation and management of the budget
Key Responsibilities
The role is responsible for the holistic management of the allocated portfolio of products.
This includes:
 Creating and reviewing portfolio and product plans that enable the meeting of key
objectives
 Maintaining the online learning platform and ensuring it meets the needs of our
members
 Identifying and managing the optimal product mix to meet the educational, strategic
and commercial objectives of the organisation
 Managing financial performance of products according to set objectives
 Researching, scoping and making recommendations for the introduction of new eproducts, retirement of products and product revisions.
 Ensuring a market-driven virtual PD offer through awareness, review and evaluation
of external landscape including competitors, trends in the profession as well as

 Understanding customer needs and learner behaviours
 Working with internal stakeholders and taking a leading position in the end-to-end
development of successful products
 Actively contributing to the budgeting process for the allocated product portfolio
 Actively pursuing improvements and innovation in the online and multimedia learning
environment
Selection Criteria
Education and experience:
 Degree qualified in business, education or e-Learning
 Proven experience in developing and managing virtual learning products
 Demonstrated experience in product management – conceptualisation, market
research, competitor analysis etc.
 Commercial experience, including creating and managing budgets, P&Ls and
qualitative reports, recommending cost and process efficiencies
 Project management experience
Skills
 Ability to work in a cross-functional interstate team
 Ability to lead a team without a formal management mandate
 Proven aptitude for research using various methods
 An innovative, problem-solving approach
 Ability to take proactive action based on research and feedback
 Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication
