Infrastructure Transactions Advisor/Consultant (part-time)
South Africa and/or Kenya

From: April 2017
To: September 15, 2017
Background and Justification
In September, 2016, at the 2nd U.S.-Africa Business Forum held in conjunction with the 71st United Nations
General Assembly, the National Association of Securities Professionals (NASP) and the United States Agency
for International Development (USAID) formally launched an investment partnership for “Mobilizing
Institutional Investors to Develop Africa’s Infrastructure” or “MiDA”. The NASP-USAID Partnership seeks to
expose U.S. pension funds and other institutional investors to opportunities to co-invest in infrastructure with
African counterparts for mutually beneficial gains. The prevailing consensus suggests that there is alignment
between pension funds and insurance companies’ need for enhanced yields and longer tenors to meet their
liability structure, and infrastructure assets potential to provide predictable inflation-adjusted cash flows that
have low correlations with existing investment returns. And nowhere is the lack of infrastructure more crucial,
transformational, and potentially profitable than in sub-Saharan Africa, which needs close $93 billion per year
to fill its infrastructure gap, mainly in energy, transportation, water, and telecommunications.
As part of this engagement, the MiDA program is seeking an Infrastructure Transactions Advisor/Consultant
